Falling Into Style

Hey all! Sorry I’ve been gone for so long, but to say the least this school year has been crazy busy! Follow me on my blog to keep up with my outfits, quips, and more!

Fall is my favorite season because you can finally break out those long sleeve shirts, deep colors, and boots!!

I saw this outfit on my friend’s Instagram and immediately had to post it! It has all the class of fall with the fun frill of summer.

Sarah working her adorable outfit!

The top is from Francesca’s and the brand is Buttons. The skirt is from Banana Republic and together these pieces create a wonderful simplicity, while also highlighting your assets in an understated way. Both items are versatile, which is great (especially on a college budget)! I love lace because it is so classy and the detailing is so simple, but beautiful.

Sorry for a short post, but I promise to be back soon 🙂

Barrera International Fashion Show

An evening of sequins, sky high heels, and signature pink cocktails; Barrera International’s showcase event was undoubtedly a night to remember. Denver’s historic Grant-Humphrey’s Mansion housed the lavish event where the grand staircase provided the backdrop for models in elegant attire. Each of the mansion’s rooms was arranged with runway seating and enlivened by models gliding from room to room. Photographers, designers, writers, and lovers of fashion and design were among the many on the guest list.

Founder of Barrera International and recent graduate of Johnson and Wales University, Juan Jimenez celebrated the label’s one year mark with a collection of 40 beautifully crafted looks for Spring/Summer 2013. The collection encompassed all the glamorous aspects of a woman’s wardrobe, from cocktail attire and evening gowns to versatile staple tops and skirts. Several expertly tailored men’s wear pieces were spread throughout the show as well.

Drawing inspiration while traveling from Montreal to London, Jimenez describes the collection as “very soft and light, loosely-fitting and free spirited, yet closely fitting and accentuating the female body.” Gorgeous French and Italian fabrics including turquoise and black metallic silk jersey and floral embroidered lace in black and gold were perfectly allocated among the pieces. Scalloped hems, draped necklines, and tailored waists all delivered a very lady-like signature appearance. “Black, ivory, forest green, turquoise and the signature cobalt-blue  represented the forefront and meaning of the collection,” states Jimenez.

Of the most memorable pieces, a high collar silver sequin evening gown stood beyond the rest, Multi-dimensional large silver sequins gave the dress movement in an eye-catching and dramatic way. A high slicked back bun and oversized art deco earrings polished out the look. Though this was one of the most show-stopping gowns of the evening, Jimenez’s penchant for elegance was expressed throughout the collection.

Back to the Basics

Be sure to check out my blog and keep up with my styles, thoughts, and my adventures as I return to California!!!!

As I finish my summer here, at Fashion Denver, I’ve realized how much I’ve grown through this internship. This blog has become something I truly look forward to writing! So… I am happy to announce that after I return to Orange, California for my Junior year of college at Chapman University I will continue to post every Monday! Thank you so much for following and get excited for what’s to come!

Trends are fine and all- They’re what make fashion fun and exciting, but the basics are not to be forgotten. Be sure to use basics with your trends pieces to create looks that are classic with a twist!

1. Red lipstick always adds a little spice to your outfit and make your eyes pop!

2. Classic fit jeans with a white v-neck and some colorful flats are good for every day!

Back to School Shopping… Delightful, not Daunting.

To see my outfits, thoughts on life, and things I love be sure to follow my blog!

As my days here at Fashion Denver start to come to a close the realization of school being near has me very excited especially because it means back to school shopping! It can be hard to figure out what you need, what you want, and how to make space for all your wonderful new goodies!

Cleaning out your closet and preparing your space for your new purchases can be a daunting task, but here’s a way to ensure it’s easy and you don’t accidentally get rid of anything you need or use. IF YOU HAVEN’T USED IT IN A YEAR… IT’S GONE! Let’s be real, you obviously don’t like that sweater enough to even wear it once last winter and it’s only taking up space that a sweater you truly love could occupy and give away those jeans you’ve been trying for 2 years to fit into. Also, it doesn’t matter if the shoes are durable or your favorite, if they’re worn out it’s time to go your separate ways. Dress for who you are today!

After cleaning out your closet it’s much easier to assess what items you need for the new school year! Make a list of NEEDS and then figure out your wants. For example: I start out with shoes- I live in Southern California so I mostly wear sandals and definitely have plenty of shoes! Nothing I need in that department, but I wouldn’t mine a new pair of black pumps (goes in the WANT section of my list).

With clothing it’s key to stick to your needs or you’ll end up with a lot of pieces you won’t be able to get much use out of. Stick to staples and then after you have your essential pants, skirts, dresses, shirts, and blouses you can move into the trendy wants.

My current list:

NEEDS- Light wash skinny jeans, leather backpack, white tank top, white shorts, blazer

WANTS- Light pink skinny pants, Ray Ban Aviators, black pumps, maxi dress/ skirt

LUV More Than the SURF

My family is on our annual vacation in San Diego for the 11th consecutive year and as usual I am very excited for all the little shops and boutiques that line the beach! My typical boutiques have been shut down or converted to rental shops so I was ecstatic when I came across this little place that actually had some cute clothes and accessories in it! LUV SURF had EVERYTHING. From high-low skirts, studded jean shorts, crop tops, and feather earrings to comfy cotton t’s, yoga pants, and pet accessories! After just opening less than a month ago the shop has a distinct flare that has something for everyone.

All the clothing was made from quality materials, soft cottons, and the accessories were unique with a fun twist, not to mention their adorable leashes, collars, toys, and dog bowls for your little pooch! If you’re in the Mission Beach area I advise poking your head in because you will fall in LUV!

Tips on How to Dress Fashionably Without Dropping A Lot of Cash

To see my outfits and thoughts check out my blog!

I had a request to give some tips on how to find the latest trends and styles without overspending, so I thought I’d do just that! As a college student living in Southern California I am constantly surrounded by fashionistas who have no problem going and spending to their hearts content, but on my budget that just won’t fly. I’ve learned how to get the pieces I’ve been desiring without breaking the bank and the secret is: persistence and patience.

1. Get on the email list to your favorite stores.
-I’ve joined the mailing list for all my favorite stores because then I always know when there’s a sale and usually stores let you in on the secret of their sales first.

2. Buy at a discount.
– While places like Nordstrom Rack can be a headache and extremely overwhelming, shopping there can be of great reward. Never go on the weekends and give yourself plenty of time to shop. It’s generally not an in and out shopping trip.

3. Shop online and use coupon codes.
– Most places have coupon codes for shopping online. All you have to do is google “online coupons for (insert brand here)”.

4. Keep going back.
– Sometimes it just takes returning to the store over and over to finally get that dress you’ve been wanting (but can’t afford) on sale!

A few of my many successes:

$6 floppy hat on sale at Forever 21
$35 Free People top (originally $90) from Nordstrom Rack
$15 gray dress from TJ Maxx and $45 sandal (originally $90) from Steve Madden

Fashion Tips for Keeping it Cool at Work

Another fashion tip Monday with intern, Katherine! For more fashion related posts check out her blog!

1. Glasses! No one can resist a businesswoman who works her glasses with confidence!

  • The frame shape should contrast with the face shape.
  • The frame size should be in scale with the face size.
  • Eyeglasses should repeat your personal best feature (such as a brown frame to match brown eyes).
Boss, Brandi Shigley, is hard at work in her oh-so-chic glasses!

2. Blazers with skinny white jeans and colorful flats or pumps give you a creative and classy edge in the office.

3. Satchels are a stylish and cool way to carry all your office supplies to work!

4. As always, you can never go wrong with a cute flowy top and capris for that easy summer look!
