Urban Nights Denver: August 5th

The Joseph Family Foundation and Tempus Jets Present
Urban Nights Denver
Bank of America Runway to Shine with Nicholas K and Salt-N-Pepa

The fifth annual Urban Nights Denver prepares to celebrate its fifth year at Mile High Station on Saturday, August 5th. The city’s largest outdoor urban fashion show and fundraiser will benefit at-risk youth with the theme: Threads of Promise.

Donna Crafton Montgomery serves as this year’s Gala Chair and is supported by co-chairs Jill Landman Alfond, Matthew Keeney and Matthew Morris.

“On any given night in Denver, more than 900 youth are homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless,” said Donna Crafton Montgomery, 2017 Urban Nights Chair. “This year, we are thrilled to add new beneficiaries that expand our reach into this vulnerable population providing a wide range of services that these kids need to obtain self-sufficiency and a safe life off the streets.”

This year’s charity partners include Urban Peak, The Danny Dietz Foundation and La Academia at The Denver Inner City Parish. All with the shared vision of providing critical services to the at-risk youth that each organization serves.

This year’s fashion show, designed and produced by Jenny Baker-Strasburg and Tobie Orr, will feature works from the Art Institute of Colorado and Suit Supply. The fashion show will be anchored by NYFW darling, Nicholas K, “Built from Scratch” Fall/Winter 2017.

In addition to delivering another fashion spectacle, this year’s event will feature 90s rap and fashion icons, Salt-N-Pepa!

The event will be held at Mile High Station — under the canopy of the Colfax Avenue viaduct —with The VIP party commencing at 6:00 pm, general admission opens at 7:00 pm and the program begins at 7:30 pm. Salt-N-Pepa hit the stage at 9. The show will be followed by an after-party until midnight.

Amy Meyer Smith, Marketing Director of Infiniti of Denver, has been named Urban Peak’s 2017 Urban Legend. Each year, the organization honors an Urban Legend to recognize his/her philanthropic work in the community. Meyer Smith is a former Urban Peak board member and past chair of Urban Nights.

“I am proud to honor Amy Meyer Smith this year,” said Gala Chair Donna Crafton Montgomery. “She is a tireless advocate, working on issues that affect our youth. Infiniti of Denver is a staunch supporter of Urban Peak, and our program frequently relies on Amy to share ideas and communicate our mission.”

Thread of Promise:

From far away, they might just blend into the crowd.
Maybe they have a home to go to, albeit broken.
Maybe they have a school to attend, albeit unsafe.
They might even have a few dollars stashed away for a rainy day
(If only they could keep them).
But take a closer look and you’ll see
They’re just hanging on by a thread.

But it’s that thread that connects us all.
This year, not one, but three, organizations have come together.
Intertwined to advance the basic needs of Colorado’s at-risk youth, beyond survival.

Urban Nights unique fashion spectacle
Works to create a new fabric.
One that connects, supports, lifts-up
And redirects the lives of at-risk youth.
One of which each of us forms a part, as individuals and as a group.
Building a stronger future: Stronger fabric. Stronger lives.

Give them just one thread of confidence.
One thread of a helping hand.
One thread of a new life.
So, they can see their threads of promise.

My adventure at Ella Bliss Beauty Bar

Last month I emceed Daybreaker Denver, an amazing morning dance party extravaganza. I thought, if I’m going to do this, I want to go the whole 9 yards, get my nails done and do something fun with my hair! I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try out Ella Bliss Beauty Bar on South Broadway, a place that I’ve driven by several times and finally got the chance to get pampered by their amazing crew.

When I first arrived, I was greeted by the friendly staff, offering me a drink and whatever I might need to make my stay comfortable. Besides being a beauty bar, they also have a BAR BAR… so you can cozy on up with a glass of wine, a cocktail, or something non-alcoholic, like tea or coffee while you have one of their many services done.

Wow!! It’s crazy how life comes full circle. Since the inception of Fashion Denver in 2004, I have been doing our most of our fashion markets in our “RINO” district, which back then, didn’t have a name. It was more or less a deserted strip with an occasional warehouse  or venue scattered in between.  Back then, I had my fashion markets at Andenken Gallery, The Walnut Foundry, The Block Building, and… Flying Dog Brewery!

In 2006, I partnered with Flying Dog Brewery to do our fashion market in the brewery. Our fashion show runway was lined by a wall of kegs and we even had our fashion show staging area in the freezer (yes… it was cold!) That was when I first met Chris Rippe, who was working with Flying Dog.

Flash forward to this week when I met up with my amazingly talented friend Phelyx Hopkins, mentalist and magician, to see the space that he’s hosting a variety of fun shows and to reunite with Chris and experiencing his new space! Chris has a beautiful warehouse space inside of C Squared Ciders and his restaurant Rackhouse Pub where we decided that it would pretty much be the perfect place to host our 13th anniversary for Fashion Denver!

Fashion Denver's 13th Anniversary

It feels so great to get back into the roots of the neighborhood, connecting with people who were such an integral part of Fashion Denver back in the day, and have new inspiration for our fashion markets! I’m so excited to hold this market in this space and to celebrate 13 years!!

If you are a designer and are interested in being part of our market, follow this link!

Stay tuned for more exciting details as our event unfolds!!!

Clementine’s Salon Unveils New Location in Stanley Marketplace

Elegant and eclectic salon includes unique offerings for bridal parties, including full-time wedding coordinator and private event space.

Clementine’s Salon, a nationally-recognized salon offering expert hair, makeup and skincare services, today unveiled their new 3,200 square-foot location in Aurora’s Stanley Marketplace, at 2501 Dallas Street on the second level (Suite 269). The new salon was built and customized with bridal parties in mind, and features a private suite with three styling chairs and additional seating for friends, family and guests. An expert wedding coordinator is available full-time to schedule and manage onsite or offsite styling.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to announce the opening of our second location. Over the last five years, we’ve grown tremendously and this exciting expansion is the next step on our journey,” said co-founder Dani Everson. “We’ve developed a great reputation for our wedding and bridal styling, so I’m particularly excited to offer a unique space and expert services specially tailored to wedding parties.”

Clementine’s original location was founded in 2011 by husband and wife Dani and John Everson in Denver’s Lower Highland (LoHi) neighborhood, on the corner of 33rd Avenue and Tejon Street. Named by ELLE Magazine as one of the top 100 hair salons in the country in 2012 and 2015, Clementine’s is known for its focus on continuous education for all stylists and staff. Founders Dani and John Everson regularly send their stylists to Bumble and Bumble University in New York and styling classes in Los Angeles, to provide customers with expert and on-trend services. Dani Everson also hosts onsite classes every six weeks to review new products, teach updo tutorials and showcase new styling techniques.

“It’s impossible to provide exceptional hair and makeup styling without staying on top of the latest trends and techniques,” said Dani Everson. “Rigorous and ongoing training and education is how our stylists stay ahead of the curve, and keep our customers happy.”

The new location in Stanley Marketplace is distinguished by its modern and inviting atmosphere. The thoughtful décor features a polished concrete floor and pops of pastel teal and orange. Wood finishes add a rustic touch to the space, while bohemian touches create a hip, eclectic vibe.

In addition to its design, the new Clementine’s is differentiated by an expanded list of services that goes far beyond those of a typical salon – particularly in the realm of skincare. Clementine’s offers a 30 or 60-minute custom facial, expert chemical peels, full waxing services, and lash or brow tinting. The salon is also the only Denver-based provider of keratin lash lifts – a treatment widely praised by beauty experts for darkening and lifting lashes without adding false strands. And in addition to traditional haircuts, coloring and styling services, Clementine’s also offers balayage – hand-painted highlights for a softer and more diffused look.

Stanley Marketplace, a 23-acre industrial space converted into a community-focused marketplace, began offering some services in December 2016. The marketplace features more than 50 independently-owned Colorado businesses – including eateries, shops, gyms, workspaces, breweries, event spaces and more. For wedding and bridal parties, Stanley Marketplace is a one-stop shop – offering an onsite florist, wine store and numerous restaurants – making it possible to arrange catering, order flowers, purchase spirits and complete hair styling in one convenient location.

In addition to wedding and bridal party styling, the private event space at Clementine’s Stanley Marketplace location is also available for continuing education classes, traveling stylists, photo shoots, pre-event prepping, team-building events and private parties. The suite accommodates 10 to 15 people.

To celebrate the launch, Clementine’s hosted a grand opening celebration at the new location on April 8, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. This event was free and open to the public, and featured a DJ, braid bar, a nail technician from Base Coat Nail Salon, wine from The Infinite Monkey Theorem and hors d’oeuvres. The first 50 guests will receive a gift bag including items from Clementine’s product lines and gifts from other businesses at Stanley Marketplace. A raffle for free services will also be offered, including a free color/cut, a HydraFacial, items from Velvet Wolf, Sterre Denver, True Holistic Boutique, and more. Attendees can RSVP for the grand opening celebration on Facebook here
