July 29th & 30th, 2017
Fair Hours: 10am – 5pm
McNichols Building, Downtown Denver
www.jackalopeartfair.com

The Jackalope Indie Artisan Fair announces the return of its summer fair, with over 150 curated booths to fill Downtown Denver’s McNichols Building.  This free and family friendly event returns to Denver from 10am to 5pm both Saturday, July 29th & Sunday, July 30th.  Jackalope offers attendees a perfect place to find a unique gift, grab a bite from a local food truck, and participate in DIY crafting workshops.

In addition to the 150+ indie artisans that will be selling their wares, there will also be a live music on the front lawn of McNichols, as well as a full schedule of art focused workshops for attendees to take a dip into the DIY crafting world.  Artisans will be hosting creative workshops, allowing attendees to get a better idea of the craftsmanship that goes into the one-of-a-kind handmade goods and products found at the fair.  Workshops range from free to $35 and include all supplies to take home DIY creations.  There will be activities for all ages available throughout the weekend.

New to 2017, Jackalope will also be partnering with ArtReach and accepting donations to promote their programs and services.  “One of our main goals as an artisan fair was to create a free and open environment for anyone to be able to attend and learn more about handmade artistry and supporting small businesses.  ArtReach is similar in their mission and even takes it a step further,” Melissa Shipley, co-founder of Jackalope Arts.  ArtReach enhances lives within the community by providing access to arts and cultural experiences for people of all ages who would not otherwise have the opportunity.  The organization exists to ensure people who struggle with physical, mental, behavioral, or severe economic challenges have an opportunity to experience arts and culture.

Join Jackalope Arts on July 29th & 30th at Downtown Denver’s McNichols Building for a unique, curated shopping experience featuring the top trendsetting makers & designers of local goods.

Companies needing interns

To my fellow fashion businesses (designers, stylists, salons and boutiques). Check out this amazing internship opportunity that Goodwill is providing this summer!

Greetings,

Goodwill Industries and the City and County of Denver are excited to collaborate on this year’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and we would love to partner with you Center to host a youth intern or employee.

What do we need from you?
We are seeking employers in the public and private sectors to host youth employees or interns aged 16-21. These youth employees can fill open positions within your organization, or you can create an intern or job position for them. Summer Youth Employment Program will pay for each youth to work a maximum of 120 hours at minimum wage ($9.30/hr). You give them the job, we pay them the wages!

Once a youth is designated to your organization you can work directly with them on their schedule. 120 hours of work between the dates of June 12, 2017 and August 16, 2017 are required, but you can break that up in the best way that works for you and your employee(s). Please arrange for students to know their schedule at least seven days in advance. Each youth will have an assigned job coach to provide support and encouragement to you and your SYEP employee. We will ask that you submit the youth’s schedule, time worked, and feedback on their job performance to the job coach, as well as allow job site visits by the coach. Processes will be put into place to make this as streamlined and efficient as possible.

What you gain from a summer youth employee?

*Maximum of 120 hours with a youth intern/employee who is paid (min. wage) by SYEP.

*An intern/employee who has demonstrated job readiness knowledge and skills.

*A job coach assigned to your SYEP employee to provide support and encouragement.

*An opportunity to hire the youth after their 120 SYEP hours.

*Changing the life of a young person who has barriers to employment.

Next Steps

If you wish to move forward with requesting a Summer Youth Employee please complete the attached SYEP Employer Application and return to ewalters@goodwilldenver.org  no later than May 12th, 2017.

Once completed, an SYEP Manager will contact you by May 19 with further instructions.

Don’t hesitate, space is limited!

FAQ’s

Lunch and Breaks – Per the Colorado Minimum Wage Order “employees shall be entitled to an uninterrupted and ‘duty free’ meal period of at least a thirty minute duration when the scheduled work shift exceeds five consecutive hours of work” as well as “a compensated ten-minute rest period for each four hours or major fractions thereof shall be permitted for all employees.” If food is served onsite at your organization, please let us know if lunch is provided for the student (this is not required).

After SYEP

Once a student has worked 120 hours, they have completed the SYEP program. If you have the capacity to hire the student and wish to do based on their performance after they complete SYEP, you are more than welcome to do so.

Background Checks

All SYEP Employers are required to complete and pass a background check. Verification can be provided by your organization if background checks are already completed as a condition of employment. If your organization does not run background checks, SYEP will ask for employers to complete a background check release form.

Scheduling

Students will be ready to begin work on June 12th, 2017 and need to work their 120 hours before August 16, 2017. You can work with the student to schedule their hours in whatever way works best for you both.

GreenLeaf to Host Farm-Raiser Benefit Concert for Nonprofit Youth Leadership Program

Our Fashion Denver headquarters is located in an amazing warehouse full of entrepreneurs, one of them being GreenLeaf! They are doing amazing things and we are thrilled to celebrate with them! Mark your calendars for September 17th….

Pink Hawks
Local band Pink Hawks to perform at this family-friendly fundraising event celebrating the successes of GreenLeaf’s crew of powerful youth leaders who have spent the year building a new farm at the Smiley Campus

GreenLeaf, a Denver nonprofit, is excited to celebrate their recent move to the Park Hill neighborhood with the 2016 Farm-Raiser Benefit Concert featuring world dance band Pink Hawks. This family-friendly fundraising event will be held on Saturday, September 17th, from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at The Art Garage at 6100 East 23rd Avenue, Denver, CO 80207. Proceeds will go to support GreenLeaf’s year-round youth leadership development, urban farming, and food justice programming. Early-bird tickets start at just $15 and can be purchased by visiting www.greenleafdenver.org.

Press photos 3In addition to live music and dancing, the Farm-Raiser event will feature an exciting silent auction, youth-led games and tours of GreenLeaf’s new farm at the Smiley Campus two blocks away, a delicious potluck-style dinner with food and drinks from local restaurants and breweries, and opportunities to purchase fresh produce from the farm and get involved with GreenLeaf’s award-winning programming.

Press photos 4The celebration will be focused on successes over the past year since GreenLeaf was forced to close their long-time farm home downtown and relocate operations. Thanks to a new partnership with Denver Public Schools, the GreenLeaf youth have built a brand new quarter-acre farm on the historic Smiley Campus in North Park Hill. GreenLeaf youth crew members work together to plan and manage the farm, including a weekly farm stand and small Community Supported Agriculture program, which help offset the cost of running the farm.

To donate goods or services for the 2016 Farm-Raiser Benefit Concert, and to learn about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Cody Meinhardt at cody@greenleafdenver.org.
