Our Fashion Denver headquarters is located in an amazing warehouse full of entrepreneurs, one of them being GreenLeaf! They are doing amazing things and we are thrilled to celebrate with them! Mark your calendars for September 17th….
GreenLeaf, a Denver nonprofit, is excited to celebrate their recent move to the Park Hill neighborhood with the 2016 Farm-Raiser Benefit Concert featuring world dance band Pink Hawks. This family-friendly fundraising event will be held on Saturday, September 17th, from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at The Art Garage at 6100 East 23rd Avenue, Denver, CO 80207. Proceeds will go to support GreenLeaf’s year-round youth leadership development, urban farming, and food justice programming. Early-bird tickets start at just $15 and can be purchased by visiting www.greenleafdenver.org.
In addition to live music and dancing, the Farm-Raiser event will feature an exciting silent auction, youth-led games and tours of GreenLeaf’s new farm at the Smiley Campus two blocks away, a delicious potluck-style dinner with food and drinks from local restaurants and breweries, and opportunities to purchase fresh produce from the farm and get involved with GreenLeaf’s award-winning programming.
The celebration will be focused on successes over the past year since GreenLeaf was forced to close their long-time farm home downtown and relocate operations. Thanks to a new partnership with Denver Public Schools, the GreenLeaf youth have built a brand new quarter-acre farm on the historic Smiley Campus in North Park Hill. GreenLeaf youth crew members work together to plan and manage the farm, including a weekly farm stand and small Community Supported Agriculture program, which help offset the cost of running the farm.
To donate goods or services for the 2016 Farm-Raiser Benefit Concert, and to learn about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Cody Meinhardt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Often times we get a lot of questions on how to tap into the local fashion scene, what resources are available, are there volunteer opportunities, and so much more! A good place to start is by checking out our links on the right hand side of our website. We’ve got lots of resources there. AND!!! We’ll be hosting a Fashion Denver Happy Hour where we’ve invited the fashion community to come together to connect.
Join us for a gathering of fashionistas from around the city and come and learn. Beer and sake will be available for purchase. Be sure to bring lots of business cards and be ready to connect! I’ll be sharing about the history of Fashion Denver and what we offer as well as introducing different fashion community leaders.
Our happy hour will take place at the space previously known as Tengu. Right now the space is in a creative brainstorm session, but owner Johnny Klein has graciously opened it up for our private event.
This past spring, I teamed up with the The Urban Angels for our dress drive and we sent out over a 150 dresses to Haiti and the children in the orphanage that I was in in the Philippines. Now with the holidays around the corner, the Urban Angels have organized a shoe drive and will be sending a special Christmas gift of new shoes for the kids in Haiti!
If you would like to help, Cash donations or new children’s shoes can be dropped off to the Fashion Denver office at Green Spaces at 1368 26th Street by December 6th.
All gifts will be sent to and distributed by Love A Child, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

After the dresses were made, we got into making paper purses. My paper purse career was how I first got into the world of fashion back in 1983. Making these paper purses turned into a real business when in 1999 I started B.Shigley designs. It was so fun to see the creations that the campers designed!
Now! We’re off to the boardroom to listen to Dorian Phaero of Phaero Creative talk about STYLING! Dorian shared how to style keeping in mind the other person’s interests, comfortability level, and much more! They campers listened contently as Dorian shared his expertise.
A HUGE thank you to Back on the Rack for lending us clothing for this segment of our fashion camp!
NEXT! To walk the runway! Or in our case… the alleyway!
What a fun day we had! It was such an amazing experience to see these fashionistas in action, collaborating, creating, and most of all having fun!
I think we’ll do another fashion camp in December! Stay tuned!!
