December 8th: Frost Fashion Market {shopping & beauty}

Save the date! Thursday, December 8th 2016 from 6:00pm-9:00pm, Fashion Denver and Beautycounter team up with Matthew Morris Salon and Jaded Beauty for FROST, an evening full of shopping and beauty to raise money for Colorado non-profit Warren Village. Frost takes place at Green Spaces, a sustainable co-working space located in the heart of the RINO district at 2590 Walnut Street. This event is free and open to the public.

Shoppers are invited to get some holiday shopping done and with a plethora of local Colorado fashion businesses, there will be gifts for everyone on their holiday wish list.  Shoppers are also invited for a beauty makeover as Matthew Morris Salon and Skincare and Jaded Beauty, transform shoppers with holiday hair and makeup styles. Once transformed, they will be whisked over to one of our photographers, either Meredith Harris Photography or Everything in Focus for a portrait shot. 100% of proceeds from this beauty session ($35.00) will be donated to Warren Village.

Warren Village exists so low income, single parent families can achieve sustainable personal and economic self-sufficiency.

Beautycounter’s mission is to get safe products in the hands of everyone. Beautycounter is a disruptive beauty brand dedicated to radical change in an unregulated industry. Name: Kim Tinnell

Business: Perfect Tin

When were you first inspired to design? I got my undergraduate degree in studio art with a focus on mixed media. I really enjoyed taking everyday objects and turning them into art. One day I was perusing a vintage shop and came across an old 1950s tin Band Aid container with a woman on it and I thought, “That would be an awesome bracelet.”

What will you be showing at Fashion Denver’s Holiday Market? I will be showing my upcycled, one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry. All my pieces are hand cut from vintage tins. I have earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.

If you had to pick one piece from your collection that most represents your personality, which would it be?  I made a bracelet out of a vintage Curad tin (circa 1950). It is playful, yet refined. The bracelet reminds me of the Pop Art period, when a lot of artists used imagery from advertising. This is one of my favorite movements in Art History.

Why should people come see you at the Fashion Denver Holiday Market on December 15th? It seems like everyone has or knows someone who has a vintage tin (or an entire collection of vintage tins). They are pieces of nostalgia. I have taken these familiar objects and repurposed them into something you can wear. As such an environmentally conscious city,  I think the people of Denver appreciate the recycling and upcycling aspect of this work.

From your collection, what would be the perfect holiday gift? I just completed a series of earrings made from plaid tins, which are perfect for the holidays and the winter season. They make great gifts and are all priced under $30.

“SPA”-A-DAY: Kai Med Spa

Business: Kai Med Spa

When were you first inspired to open Kai Med Spa? Ted Lin is the owner of Kai Med Spa. His inspiration came through working in his general practice of medicine. He worked with a patient who was ailing for months. She was not responding to any of his physical treatment suggestion and she talked a great deal about a mark on her face at each appointment. Dr. Lin did not ignore the comments about the mole, but he was not listening in a way that he could understand the sort of image problems it was causing. Finally after months, he agreed to remove the spot. An unbelievable transformation occurred afterward. Her entire demeanor changed. Her physical health improved drastically and her self esteem and self image increased. It was then that he realized that sometimes there are things about ourselves that can hinder growth on the inside. It inspired him to listen closer to his patients but to also pursue the business of a medical spa. The connection between paying attention to what is going on with the outside of your body can absolutely affect the health of the inside as well.

What will you be showing at Fashion Denver’s Holiday Market? We will be featuring our product line Eminence Organics and giving out samples, gift certificates, and discounts for our services.

Why should people come see you at the Fashion Denver Holiday Market on December 15th? We are a med spa with a luxury feel that focuses on educating and informing our customers the importance of maintaining healthy skin. Our products are incredible and all natural. They have a dramatic effect and are great gift ideas/stocking stuffers for anyone–men or women!

From your collection, what would be the perfect holiday gift?  Combination of a facial with a product. We will have the esthetician at the event to educate people on the best product for their skin!
