A trip to Houston

I just got back from a fun trip to Houston, TX where I was visiting family, hanging out with my favorite cousins, and eating… ALOT! We were staying in a suburb of Houston about an hour South to be exact. In all of the summers that I’ve come to Houston to visit family, I have never had a city shopping adventure. Now that I’m an adult and have Fashion Denver, I love to go to cities and see what others are doing to support their local designers.

With a few recommendations to go to the Montrose area of Houston, my family headed out for an afternoon lunch and shopping adventure.  I used YELP to help us find a delicious little restaurant and we ended up at the Hobbit Cafe, dedicated to the Lord of the Rings movies, of which, surprisingly, I’ve never seen. But our lunch was delicious and HUGE! Seriously, I don’t know how 1 person can eat a sandwich as big as the one that was served to me!

After lunch, we headed on over to Westheimer Rd. where I found streets and streets of boutiques. Many of were used, vintage, and consignment, but there was a boutique that was all Japanese fashion. I fell in love with the shop called Leopard Lounge. I picked up a reconstructed vintage tee designed by the shop girls that work there.

Shopping in Texas at Leopard Lounge

Every single boutique that I went into, I asked them where I could find local Houston designers and I was very surprised when each shop person did not have an answer.  That made me very proud to be from Denver, where we are proud of our local designers and have many places where we can find local designers.  All in all, it was a fun trip mini adventure into the city. They’ve got a lot of great vintage and colorful buildings.

When I go out of town, I am always so happy to come back to our city, our community, and our very talented local designers.

Our lucky winner!

One of my fabulous business mentors, Kathy Bacon, founder of Dress For Success Denver, has graciously donated 2 VIP tickets to Forever Darling IV. Fashion Denver had a contest on Facebook where one would write a haiku and take a picture in a roaring 20’s outfit.

Here is our lucky winner! Singer / songwriter Coles Whalen!

Sneak peak at new September designers

I’ve met with 3 designers that will be joining Fashion Denver in September and upon those meetings, bought up some new favorite accessories. Here is a sneak peak from designers  Leigh Benner, designer of Barberry & Lace, Michelle Marie Designs, and Jennifer Lane Designs.

From the bottom up:

Earrings: I fell in love with the color and simplicity of these Michelle Marie Designs earrings and have been wearing them ever since I got them. They add just the perfect pop of color.

Necklace: As some of you may know, I could be on my roller-skates 24 /7 and this Barberry & Lace necklace is just the perfect little charm to represent my passion for rolling.

Headband / necklace: There are days that I love the earthy feel of nature and this headband is the perfect way to come stay rooted to our earth in a peaceful way. If you don’t want to wrap it around your head, you can wear it as a necklace. I love pieces with options!

We are really looking forward to the new designers joining us! Come and meet them at our First Friday event on September 2nd from 6pm-9pm!

To my fellow 4 Eyes: A discount for you at SEE

Hello to all of my stylish fellow 4-eyes!  In the past, I’ve found that not all eye shops carry cute frames and as somebody who loves fashion and wants to be stylish with my glasses, I finally found the perfect place to shop for all of my eyeglass needs… SEE!!

Located in Cherry Creek North, this eye boutique, complete with eye doctor, has a HUGE collection of stylish glasses for all different types of personalities.

Fashion Denver Loves SEE
The wide variety of glasses at SEE

I spent about 30 minutes trying on 20 different pair of glasses and finally settled on a pair that suited me! One of the things that is mildly annoying is always changing from regular glasses to sunglasses when I go outside and to remedy this annoyance, I got the transitional lenses and LOVE them!! No more carrying around 2 pairs of glasses. I just step outside and VOILA! My eyeballs are protected from the sun!

The friendly staff at SEE

I’m also a huge fan of great customer service and Angela and Heidi were so much fun to work with. They were patient with me in narrowing down my favorite glasses and were super helpful. Also, my eye doctor was awesome!  All in all, I had such a fun experience at SEE and I just want to shout out to the world how much they rule my blind world.  Thank you for providing me with fun and stylish glasses!!

It's fun to have 4-eyes!

Because we love them so much, we want to share the love!! Swing by Fashion Denver and pick up a $50 SEE.I.P. Card for a discount on your glasses! If you can’t swing by Fashion Denver, just mention this to them to redeem your discount.

For more information visit or contact Angela or Heidi at 303-200-1095. They’re located at 2800 E. Second Ave. in Cherry Creek North.

Fashion Denver’s look of the day and preview to our spring market!

A preview of our spring fashion market
A preview of what will be found at our spring fashion market

Brandi says she likes this rainy weather. I myself am on the fence about it. I miss spring! And speaking of awesome stuff you can do in spring – Were we? We are now! – don’t forget to stop by the Fashion Market at Your Sunday Best this Sunday! Today’s looks of the day are both spring-themed and feature pieces that are going to be in the market for sale and on the runway at the fashion show.

The first look is a dress from Gabriela Designs, a really nice stretchy dress in some great bold colors! I’ve paired it up with a big chunky blue necklace from Stranded Jewelry. I love the colors and the dress is nice and light, great for the warm weather that is headed our way!

The next look of the day is a bright blue beaded skirt from Sparkle Eyes that I’ve paired with a mini-dress from Gabriela Designs. Yeah, it’s not so mini-dress-y right now, but I loved how the warm natural colors matched with the sky-blue so I tucked it in to give it a bit of a waist. Having that little bit of fabric underneath helps give the skirt some body, too!

Remember that these particular designers aren’t featured in our showroom right now(Gabriela is set to join us soon, though!), so if you want these or any of their other creations – and trust me, we’ve got more! – you’ve got to stop by the Market this Sunday at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion!

CSU’s Student Fashion Show Fash(n)Fresh + Taryn Slawson & Chasing Rainbows

We’ll be heading up to Fort Collins this evening for the senior fashion show and I’m so excited to see what the designers have come up with. There have been some amazing designers that have come out of Ft. Collins like Taryn Slawson. Taryn currently has a collection called Chasing Rainbows and an accessory line, The Hot Pink Mustache, that she’s created with her sister Megan. The Hot Pink Mustache can be found at Fashion Denver.

Chasing Rainbows was also one of our very first featured designers when we opened our showroom doors back when we were in our tiny little rowhome on Cherokee Row. It’s so fun to see how Taryn’s designs evolve. She designs the kind of dresses that are for the free spirited, colorful woman who knows how to have a good time. One day, when I’m on Conan O’Brien, I will wear a Chasing Rainbows dress 🙂 (It’s a little dream I have).

Style File: Morgan at Studio Salon

Morgan, stylist at Studio Salon

We love our friends at Studio Salon! Morgan takes a break from cutting hair looking stylish as always.  I love her simple black dress paired with grey sweater and leggings with blue tights under them.  This dress seems so versatile and one you can dress up and dress down.  I’m also loving the shoes!  Just a sample of everyday style!
