so
whimsy: Julianne Hazelhurst
How
would you describe the style of your designs?
so
whimsy is a juxtaposition of modern and retro, sexy and classy,
girly and womanly. And every piece is really well sewn. You
will be really happy with the construction of each so whimsy
garment.
Where do you gain inspiration from?
I
get a lot of my inspiration from the fabric itself. The prints,
textures and drapes really effect my designs.
What's the first piece you ever made?
I
started making clothes for my American Girls in second grade,
but I started directing my mom how I wanted my clothes from
the time I could talk.
What's the story behind the name of your line?
My
mom sewed my whole life, under the name Stitches. When I started
selling with her, we added "of whimsy" to our name.
As my clothing line developed out of that, I wanted something
shorter and catchier. After years of trying to come up with
a name, I got a concussion and found that if I took the s
and the o from "stitches of whimsy" I would have
"so whimsy". It immediately clicked with me, even
when my concussion was gone!
What
materials do you usually use?
I love fabrics that drape well, I use a lot of jersey and
charmeuse. Knits are great because they are so easy to wear
and dress up.
Where can we find your designs?
You
can find them at Fashion Denver, and my new website will be
launched very soon.
If you could dress anyone in the world who would it
be?
The
girls I see walking down the street in Denver. Honestly, I
just want to see the everyday Colorado girl sporting my clothes.
Do
you have a website? Any links to press? Website is
in the works. You can visit the website sewnews.com
and find my clothes on the cover of the June/ July issue!
Or you can pick up the latest issue at your favorite newsstand.
And lastly, are there any fun facts that you'd like
to include?
Every
girl needs a little whimsy!
