PILLOWCASE DRESS FOR DRESS DRIVE
YOU WILL NEED:
♥ fabric: 1 – 1 1/2 of a yard
♥ seam binding
♥ lace, ribbon, rick rack, buttons to embellish dress
With fabric placed selvage to selvage, sew side seams with 5/8 seam. repeat on the opposite side. Double stitch all side seams. Hem bottom of dress.
Cut arm holes in the shape of a letter “J”, measuring from the top 3 3/4 wide and 6 3/4 long.
On the right side of the fabric attach seam binding to the arm holes. Press towards the wrong side fabric and sew seam binding to form arm holes.
On both sides of the dress, make a casing to attach the straps. Finished casing should be 3/4 – 1 in length.
Cut 2, 3 inch wide and 44-45 inch long pieces of fabric.
Fold and sew straps to fit into casing.
Insert straps into casing, pull straps into the center and gather the casing to measure 6 – 6 1/2 leaving equal length on both sides.
Sew straps at the edge of the casing on both sides and triple sew for strength.
Completed dress should measure 26-29 inches in length from the shoulder.
Contrasting fabric can be used to add a ruffle or straps. Adding embellishments add extra pop!!
