Roll out of bed and straight into the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax for bottomless mimosas and brunch followed by a private screening of the critically acclaimed documentary, Bill Cunningham New York. All the cool kids from the Denver Film Society, 303 Magazine, Yelp, MOR, Huckleberry Roasters, and the Reel Social Club (duh) will be there dancing to sweet tunes, thanks to Radio 1190.

Shake off that Friday Night hangover and get there for some serious fun. Oh, and did we mention this is FREE for Reel Social Club members? Get it together and RSVP TODAY!

It always makes me a little suprised when people say that there is no fashion going on in Colorado. If we open up our eyes and get involved, we’ll actually find that there is NEVER a dull moment in fashion and that our state has a plethora of designers and independent boutiques everywhere!

As our state’s fashion scene continues to grow, some of Denver’s fashion industry leaders have come together to create an association in which fashion can come together to truly grow and support all that Colorado has to offer. What the community needs is input from you! What do YOU NEED? What do you see IS LACKING? How can we come together to be even stronger?

One reason that I am SO PROUD to be part of Colorado is because of our strong community. It’s important to understand that we need to support each other, not be divided.

Dear Friends and family of Fashion Denver,

As most of you know, the Fashion Denver boutique closed on Saturday (with a big party that continued all day and into the evening). Although we are all sad to see the boutique close, it is opening up new possibilities for local designers and entrepreneurs as Brandi Shigley moves on to more effective ways to help grow aspiring businesses. She has sacrificed an amazing amount of her time and effort over that past couple years to make the boutique a success and help the designers that were a part of it.

I thought it would be awesome to do something special for Brandi as a token of our appreciation for everything she has done, and to help in her get started in her new pursuits. I took up a collection at the party to help Brandi with the renovations of her new space and I thought we could keep the donations coming in. What’s in store after we shut the boutique down at the end of January?

Frock Out 2012
I’ve been hired as co-producer of Frock Out 2012, a fashion competition with the Denver Public Library’s Fresh City Life program.  12 designers will be selected from our jury to compete and will show 4 pieces from their current collection and design 1 challenge piece. We are holding auditions this Saturday at Fashion Denver and have over 20 designers signed up to audition. It’s going to be very exciting! The event happens on April 20th.

Spring / Summer fashion market
I will continue to produce the fashion markets featuring 20-3o Colorado fashion designers. Our fashion markets are held at a fun venue and designers are invited to come and sell and connect.  This spring / summer market (date and location to be determined)  will be our 30th market since 2004. Oh my!!! Each market brings in new designers and it’s really inspiring to see our local fashion scene expand.

The Denver County Fair Fashion Pavilion
I’ve been hired back to work with the Denver County Fair on being their fashion pavilion manager! Last year’s fair made the Washington Post and was an absolute blast. To see videos, sign up to be a vendor or a competitor, and more visit www.denvercountyfair.org
In the next month, I’ll be converting our space to an entrepreneurial space that I share with 3 others. The month of February will be a transitional month as we prepare our new space! Exciting changes abound and we’re out the gates of this new year with intention, purpose, and positivity!

Hello Fashion Denver Friends and happy new year to you!

So many new and exciting things are going on over here. Many of you may know by now that we are closing the retail side of things down at the end of January so we can get back to focussing on the business development side of things with our designers.

Fashion Denver will continue to produce our seasonal fashion markets and events and we will continue to work one on one with our local designers helping them build their businesses which continue to contribute to our growing fashion scene.

This year, I’ve been brought on board to co-produce Frock Out 2012 with Chris Loffelmacher of Fresh City Life at the Denver Public Library. I’ll also be the fashion pavilion manager at the Denver County Fair . The current Fashion Denver space will be converted to an entrepreneurial shared space in which I will have my office and workshop space.

If you haven’t had a chance to come by yet, please visit us before the end of January and check out our 20 designers that we have featured in our shop. Also, mark your calendar for January 28th as we celebrate our Open House Closing Party! From 11am-6pm, Fashion Denver and our featured designers will be celebrating the end of this chapter and the beginning of the new chapter. We’ll move the after party upstairs in the evening for a dance party extravaganza! We will have entertainment, beverages, and finger foods throughout the day too. We’d love to see you there!

For several years the fashion scene in Denver has been evolving and growing. It is a very exciting place to be for fashion! Colorado is such a supportive city for local fashion, music, and art! Every day we get emails, phone calls, and people stopping by the shop wondering about the following:

1) How can I get involved in the fashion scene in Denver?

2) I’m a designer. What resources are available in Colorado to help me grow my business?

3) Where else can I shop for local designers?

4) Where are the fashion internships in Colorado?

5) Are there fashion schools in Colorado?

Well! I thought it would be a good idea to just invite those with these questions and I can answer all of these questions all the while being surrounded by local fashion and meeting other people in our wonderful city!

Tonight I was watching Project Runway All Stars featuring Denver’s Mondo Guerra and it brought me back a few years. In 2007, I was one of the producers on The Fashion Project at Tamarac. Designers competed head to head to win a trip to NYC. Mondo won the competition. In this excerpt, designers had $100.00 to spend at Ace Hardware and made a dress. In Project Runway All Stars, Mondo chose binders, trashbags and tape. In our Ace competition, he used garbage bags, gumballs, and chicken wire. This video brings back memories. Filmed by 2 of my favorite film makers Mas Hacienda and Ben Kronberg and featuring several of Denver’s amazing designers…

DENVER COMMUNITY FASHION MEETING

Meeting Details:
Create Denver and representatives of Denver’s fashion community invite you to attend a follow-up meeting to the November 14th meeting, to continue exploration of the development of a local fashion trade association.

At this meeting, we will review and discuss the results from the online survey and determine next steps. This discussion will be facilitated by Stephanie Blake, principal at Blake Communications.

Location & Parking:
The Cherry Creek Arts Festival office is located at 2 Steele Street, Suite B-100, in the Bank of the West building — which is located on the corner of Ellsworth and Steele, directly east across the street from Macy’s and Safeway — which are on the far-east side of the Cherry Creek Shopping Center.

PARKING: Please do not park in the bank parking lot, as it is strictly enforced for bank customers and permit holders only. FREE PARKING is available on surrounding streets and at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center across the street.

The CCAF office is located on the lower level of the bank; take the elevator down to “B.”
