Art Meets Beast is a two-day exploration of food and art, culminating in a bison feast prepared by six of Denver’s top chefs.

DENVER (Tuesday, October 16) – The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA Denver) today announced the second annual “Art Meets Beast” festival, a two-day event showcasing a whole bison roast as well as a bison butchering workshop, a 4H animal showcase and an urban farm bus tour.

“Art Meets Beast is not just an opportunity for people to learn more about local production of food, it’s also a chance to have fun at the museum and have great meals,” said Sarah Baie, director of programming, “We want to invite audiences to consider the connections firsthand between food and culture by looking more closely at the food we eat.”

Our judges will be Museum of Contemporary Art’s Director of Programming, Sarah Kate Baie, and Program Producer, Jesse Leaneagh.

The event begins Friday, Nov 9 at 6:30PM at MCA Denver with “Bison Carving and Food Pornography” in which Denver’s own Pete Marczyk will conduct a bison-butchering workshop. The bison meat will then be distributed to six of Denver’s top chefs in preparation for the feast.

On the evening of Saturday, Nov 10 Jamey Fader of Lola, Keegan Gerhard of D Bar, Troy Guard of TAG, Max MacKissock of The Squeaky Bean, Jorel Pierce of Euclid Hall, and Sean Yontz of El Diablo and Sketch will present a six-course bison dinner, complete with music for stampede.

To produce the program, MCA Denver partnered with some of the biggest names on Denver’s food scene, including Charlie Berger at the Denver Beer Company, Jamey Fader of Lola, Keegan Gerhard of D Bar, Troy Guard of TAG, Max MacKissock of The Squeaky Bean, Pete Marczyk of Marczyk’s Fine Foods, Hugo Matheson of The Kitchen Denver, Jim Mills at MM Local, Jorel Pierce of Euclid Hall, and Sean Yontz of El Diablo and Sketch as well as the lesser known but equally intrepid farmers Donna Garnett of The Urban Farm at Stapleton and Pam & Bill Hyde at Happy Farms.
