Forever Darling written from our Fashion Denver Friday assistant intern

Forever Darling IV
By Megan Timlin

Friday night at the Sherman Event Center in Denver, CO was the highly anticipated Forever Darling IV event. Fallene Wells, hairstylists, Project Runway Season 9 contestant, and fashion designer of her own line, is the creator of this event and works year around to produce it. This event recognizes and promotes local fashion designers and businesses, and this year featured 11 designers. The evening included a VIP reception, silent auction, live jazz and dancers, and of course the fashion show. It was great to see all the people that came and supported this event, including the sponsors: Vitamin Water, Maximum Talent, and 5280.

As an intern at Fashion Denver I was given the opportunity to be involved in the event. Technically, my title was VIP Host, however as I’ve learned from reading many blogs, things change. In the midst of there not being enough volunteers and things getting crazy, I started downstairs at Will Call with one other volunteer. We knew it was going to get crazy, but we weren’t anticipating the computer to lose battery and the credit card app to not work. However, with the help of Brandi Shigley, Fallene, and her husband, Kyle, we made it through. Tim Gunn would’ve said “make it work” and know we did. Everyone got a ticket, a wrist band, a gift bag (if they were VIP), and made it up to show in time.

8:15pm approached and the show was about to start. I went upstairs with Brandi and her boyfriend, James. Brandi started facebooking the show live on the Fashion Denver page, and then she suggested I do the same. After a failed attempt with my barely functional iPhone, I whipped out the iPad. Immediately, I started having so much fun taking pictures of each collection, progressing to making blurbs about certain designers and their relationship to Fashion Denver. I’ve seen Tumblr posts from all the shows for weeks wishing I could do that, and finally my opportunity came. I can only hope that it was just the first of many to come.

After the show I mingled, hung out with the other Fashion Denver interns, met a lot of cool people, and watched as the night came to close. It was a truly a great experience. I am so grateful that I found Fashion Denver and am getting all these opportunities to see the fashion scene in Colorado, and how it continues to grow. I can’t wait to see what the next adventure has in store for me.

Until then,

xoxo
