Asia met French Couture on the runway for a night of pure luxury and elegance. Barrera International took over the Space Gallery on September 5th, showcasing its 2014 Autumn/Winter collection. I sipped cocktails with some of Denver’s elite designers, magazine owners, boutiques, stylists, fashion bloggers and media personnel in an intimate gathering prior to the runway presentation.
The Barrera International 2014 Autumn/Winter collection included six major elements: satin, silk, chiffon, wool, cashmere and seasonal blends. The runway show featured unique fabrics with just a hint of sparkle, and brought a contrast of color against the gallery’s white backdrop. The intimate runway presentation allowed for close-up views of the 40 looks, illuminating how much detail went into each individual piece. I was dying over the jewel-toned embellishments in the couture line, absolute perfection. Erroll Perkins and his team of make-up artists partnered up with Ted Medina and his team of hairstylists to create a bold, yet graceful look to compliment each design. A pop-up shop followed the runway show where clients and guests were able to place customizable orders.
JUAN JIMENEZ
There is no better time to be a young designer in Denver, as the fashion industry is taking off and becoming highly acclaimed. Juan Jimenez, the 22-year-old designer behind Barrera International, started his womenswear label in 2011 after an impressive internship with Tim Ford. Juan created his line to emit luxury, elegance, exclusivity and sensuality, which he showcased flawlessly at this exclusive event. Each piece, from the lavish evening dresses to the staple pieces, was made completely by hand to emanate perfection. Juan deserves a break after the work that went into the production of this event, but he is already, “getting ready and planning the Spring/Summer Couture Show.” I know I will be anxiously waiting for his next show, but until then I will be praying that the 2014 Autumn/Winter collection magically appears in my closet just in time for the changing seasons.
