I just got back from a fun trip to Houston, TX where I was visiting family, hanging out with my favorite cousins, and eating… ALOT! We were staying in a suburb of Houston about an hour South to be exact. In all of the summers that I’ve come to Houston to visit family, I have never had a city shopping adventure. Now that I’m an adult and have Fashion Denver, I love to go to cities and see what others are doing to support their local designers.
With a few recommendations to go to the Montrose area of Houston, my family headed out for an afternoon lunch and shopping adventure. I used YELP to help us find a delicious little restaurant and we ended up at the Hobbit Cafe, dedicated to the Lord of the Rings movies, of which, surprisingly, I’ve never seen. But our lunch was delicious and HUGE! Seriously, I don’t know how 1 person can eat a sandwich as big as the one that was served to me!
After lunch, we headed on over to Westheimer Rd. where I found streets and streets of boutiques. Many of were used, vintage, and consignment, but there was a boutique that was all Japanese fashion. I fell in love with the shop called Leopard Lounge. I picked up a reconstructed vintage tee designed by the shop girls that work there.
Every single boutique that I went into, I asked them where I could find local Houston designers and I was very surprised when each shop person did not have an answer. That made me very proud to be from Denver, where we are proud of our local designers and have many places where we can find local designers. All in all, it was a fun trip mini adventure into the city. They’ve got a lot of great vintage and colorful buildings.
When I go out of town, I am always so happy to come back to our city, our community, and our very talented local designers.
