Fashion Denver Update

Hello Fashion Denver family and friends! Thank you so much for your continued support over the past 15 years! I wanted to give you all a quick update on what’s happening here in the world of Fashion Denver. If you’re new to Fashion Denver, HELLO!! Over the past 15 years, Fashion Denver has served as a consultancy in the fashion world as well as having had a retail space (2007-2011)and producing countless fashion markets and fashion shows.  That’s the Fashion Denver history in a very small nutshell 🙂

Fashion Denver Update

5 years ago, my mom Vicki, was diagnosed with a rare type of sarcoma cancer called Leiomiosarcoma. She has outlived her life expectancy and is continuing to be an amazing warrior! She has recently started  chemo.

Flashback to a year ago….

My Grandma (my mom’s mom), had just turned 90 and a few months into being 90, her health began to decline.  It was heartbreaking yet beautiful to be with my Grandma as she was nearing the end of her life. We truly had a special bond.

Denver Fashion Designer, Brooks Luby, Breast Cancer Survivor to Showcase Holiday 2018 Collection

October 8, 2018 – Brooks Luby has been designing clothes for over four decades. She has always had a flare for style, daring to test the waters with colors and patterns, and giving women a custom design and fit that is unique to them. In 1990, clothes and the meaning behind them took a new meaning. Brooks (her professional name), was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier that year became more determined than ever to work with women and their curves and make them feel beautiful in their own skin.

Brooks at the time of her diagnosis became friends with another Denver fashion icon, Sue Miller. Miller had started Colorado’s first breast cancer organization seven years before to give survivors a place and faces to talk to. Brooks like many survivors was private in sharing her diagnosis, but that didn’t stop her from celebrating life instead of fearing it.

According to National Alliance on Mental Illness, “1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness in a year; 1 in 5 youth (ages 13-18) experience a severe mental disorder in their lifetime.” This ranges from substance abuse, suicidal thoughts/actions, anxiety disorders, depression, and more. Have you ever felt like you wish you could do something about it? Well now you can!

Every year, the Lion Project’s board of directors select a cause that has either moved our hearts collectively or an adversity our society is enduring. For 2019, they have selected to focus on the country’s silent killer – mental health.

November 2017, Sydney Scarola joined the Fashion Denver team.Brandi Shigley and Sydney ScarolaWhen we had our first meeting, I fell in love with her style and energy and immediately knew that we needed her talents! For months, Sydney covered the latest events and trends out in our world. We’d head out to fashion events together where she would capture the highlights of the events, all the while having so much fun!

Well, now our Sydney is in NYC studying fashion and now the Big Apple gets to have this light shine bright!! We are so proud of you Sydney!
