Recap of Versailles ’73

Versailles ’73: American Runway Revolution

Thursday night was a truly incredible collaboration of talented people! I was very excited to be a part of the showing of Versailles ’73: American Runway Revolution and the reception that followed (where I met Pat Cleveland…OMG! But more about that later).

The film was so interesting and well put together! I think, a lot of the time, people dismiss fashion as something that’s frilly and unimportant. Shallow, even. But what I’ve always felt is that fashion is a visual and artistic representation of where we are in history. Versailles ’73 captured that so well. It showed how five American designers, not taken seriously in the global fashion industry, were able to shatter the doubts of the rest of the world. They were able to prove themselves, and the fashion show at Versailles put American designers on the same plane as other respected designers around the world. These American designers came to Versailles to compete against the likes of Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Hubert de Givenchy, Pierre Cardin, and Emanuel Ungaro. The American designers, after putting on a fabulously entertaining show, then became household names. You might just recognize them: Anne Klein, Stephen Burrows, … Read more!

CALLING VISUAL, MUSICAL, AND PERFORMANCE

998807_fingerpaint__11ARTISTS!

Our art dept. is organizing a school-wide, full-day event featuring the arts. We are looking for artists of all different styles and media to come and share their talents with our elementary school students for a day. It is our hope, that by gathering many different artists from the surrounding area, we can help to foster and instill a lasting interest in a subject that often gets overlooked in schools: THE ARTS!!!

Basically, you would be presenting your art work and engaging the students in an activity of your choice with several classes of students. Classes will be supervised by Jefferson Academy Faculty/Staff, so there is no reason to be intimidated if teaching is not your thing. Our students are well behaved and extremely interested in the arts. If your profession is the visual arts, music, or theater/drama we would love to find a way to share it with our students!

If you would be … Read more!

Fashion Denver is beyond excited to present this fashion documentary! Set in 1973 in Versailles, France(ooh-la-la!), the film shows the stunning designs of Givenchy, Dior, Ungaro, Yves Saint Laurent, and Pierre Cardin (Vive la France!), as well as Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Anne Klein, Stephen Burrows, and Bill Blass (USA! USA!). And when a group of African American models board the plane to walk the runway in France, they make more than a fashion statement. They make a statement about the changing times, and end up putting African Models (and American fashion) on the map.

As if that didn’t sound exciting enough, the post-film reception and fashion show is sure to be marvelous! Fashion Denver’s own Brandi Shigley and her band B.Sue will be serenading your earholes, and the talented designers Gabriela Martinez and Sahar Pazirandeh are going to be showing off some beautiful designs. … Read more!
