Fashion Denver will host a handful of designers at the 303 Magazine White Party next Thursday, August 18th at the Riviera at Breakers Resort! Cara Diane + Co is one of our featured designers and we are happy to have her on board. Cara DianeWhat were your obsessions growing up?

#1 Any type of craft project.

I could spend hours on beads or shrinky dinks (I think I still can). I remember spending days at a time at my grandma’s house over holidays and summer break so she would teach me how to sew.

#2 I was smitten with being an entrepreneur and starting a businesses.

Even as a young kid I remember setting up a lemonade stand and being impatient waiting for people to come to me, so the next time I made homemade pretzels and took them door to door to sell in my little wagon.

I think for me, Cara Diane + Co. is a perfect intersection of both those passions.

#3 Candy. Cake. Sugar. And anything sweet.

1. What were your obsessions growing up?

Growing up, I was obsessed with cats and unicorns. My drawings always had one or the other. I also loved babies – any kind of baby. I had a pink stuffed cat with a velcro pouch in it’s stomach that contained kittens. It was totally weird but I loved that cat like nobody’s business.

2. How did fashion become the symbol for your creative expression?

When I look back, fashion has always been the symbol of my creative expression. I remember being in elementary school and pausing the Sound of Music frame by frame so that I could draw each of the children’s outfits, the clothing Fraulein Maria made from the leftover drapery material. Interestingly, I drew … Read more!

1) When did you first realize your passion for the beauty industry?

Growing up my mother worked at a salon in North Dallas. I would spend many days during the summer helping out around the salon while admiring all the beautiful transformations that happened daily. I’ve always found joy in bringing women confidence they forgot they had, it always came naturally to me. Choosing a career in the beauty industry was a no brainer when the time came.

2) What has been your path thus far in your career?

I got my cosmetology license just after my senior year in high school and spent 3 years going back and forth between doing hair and makeup. I discovered and fell in love with individual eyelash extensions in 2012. Shortly after … Read more!

La Lovely VintageIn our ongoing series of Sizzlin’ 6 Summer Questions with various fashion businesses around the city, we bring you our interview with Tara, brains behind La Lovely Vintage!

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Tara for the past couple of years. We are in an entrepreneurial / spiritual book club together and have been there to support and encourage one another on this journey of life. It’s been an honor to see her passion evolve. From doing markets and shows, to having a little camper for her boutique, to officially opening up a brick and mortar shop, her evolution is inspiring.

How long have you had a penchant for vintage?

I have been fascinated with vintage and antiques since I was a little girl, their story and history inspires me. I’ve always been attracted to the look and feel of vintage the same way many people are attracted to designer names. I started buying vintage around the age 12, this is when I bought my first baby blue typewriter.

How did fashion become the symbol for your creative expression?

I have many sisters and sometimes when they were going out, they would have “wardrobe emergencies” in that all of a sudden they did not like their outfits – they would change from dress to dress stillTop / dress by Byasima Couture. Photo by Dante Canto X Images / d4nt3.comthey were not happy with how they looked, so I would make adjustments by putting a fold here or adding a piece of material there or make them wear a skirt as a dress – and they loved it! It was fulfilling to see what I had visualized expressed in what they were wearing.
