Day of Caring is pleased to invite the community to their 5th annual ‘Evening of Caring’ gala to be held on Thursday, March 2nd, at the Grand Hyatt (located at 1750 Welton Street in downtown Denver) from 5:30pm – 9:00pm; reception and silent auction will begin at 5:30pm.
Each year Day of Caring honors one individual with the Sue Miller Survivor Award and the 2017 Honoree is Mrs. Arlene Johnson. Day of Caring also honors community members who exemplify excellent service/work in the breast cancer community. This year’s Lifetime of Caring Awardees are Dr. Barb Schwartzberg – Medical Field, and Ms. Antoinette Paniagua – Community Volunteer.
The evening will culminate with a survivor fashion show featuring clothing from long time Day of Caring sponsors Macy’s, and Brooks Ltd., who creates one of a kind looks for the fashion show. Models will be dressed to highlight the 2017 gala’s “Evening in Paris” theme. We are excited that our co-mcees for the evening are Taylor Temby, Weekend Anchor at 9News and Murphy Huston, radio personality at KOSI.
Day of Caring currently offers support to survivors and co-survivors by hosting an annual educational symposia where low income survivors are able to attend through the Judy Ungerman Scholarship Fund. Additionally, the Survivor Assistance Program provides non-medical financial assistance to breast cancer survivors (rent, utilities, groceries, etc.) and Day of Caring is currently exploring ways to expand services and programs in 2017.
Thirty-five years ago, the Sue Miller Day of Caring opened its doors as the first breast cancer not for profit support organization in Colorado. Since inception, they have provided unduplicated educational services and programs to over 17,500 individuals and they serve breast cancer patients and survivors in Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Boulder, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties.
