October 8, 2018 – Brooks Luby has been designing clothes for over four decades. She has always had a flare for style, daring to test the waters with colors and patterns, and giving women a custom design and fit that is unique to them. In 1990, clothes and the meaning behind them took a new meaning. Brooks (her professional name), was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier that year became more determined than ever to work with women and their curves and make them feel beautiful in their own skin.
Brooks at the time of her diagnosis became friends with another Denver fashion icon, Sue Miller. Miller had started Colorado’s first breast cancer organization seven years before to give survivors a place and faces to talk to. Brooks like many survivors was private in sharing her diagnosis, but that didn’t stop her from celebrating life instead of fearing it.
The Day of Caring was Colorado’s first breast cancer organization to form. Formed 32 years ago by Sue Miller, the organization has provided education and awareness to over 15,500 individuals through their annual breast cancer conference, and financial assistance program. This past year The Day of Caring has merged with Cancer League of Colorado. For the immediate future, Cancer League intends to continue the iconic Sue Miller Day of Caring Fashion Show as a part of its annual fundraising efforts, and a portion of the dollars raised by Cancer League from the Fashion Show would be used to fund breast cancer-related research and service organizations that support breast cancer patients and their families.
Designs from BrooksLTD will showcase the latest trends in fashion while highlighting the shape and character of each survivor model. “It is important for me to continue working with breast cancer survivors highlighting their femininity and beauty, empowering them to celebrate each and every day. I relate to breast cancer survivors on a deep level” Brooks said.
The Cancer League fashion show will feature thirty models who are all breast cancer survivors. Ten of the models will be wearing ensembles from Brooks LTD’s holiday collection Parker Panache and Dillards will also feature their clothing selections. The show also features four male breast cancer survivors.
