1. What were your obsessions growing up?

Growing up, I was obsessed with cats and unicorns. My drawings always had one or the other. I also loved babies – any kind of baby. I had a pink stuffed cat with a velcro pouch in it’s stomach that contained kittens. It was totally weird but I loved that cat like nobody’s business.

2. How did fashion become the symbol for your creative expression?

When I look back, fashion has always been the symbol of my creative expression. I remember being in elementary school and pausing the Sound of Music frame by frame so that I could draw each of the children’s outfits, the clothing Fraulein Maria made from the leftover drapery material. Interestingly, I drew … Read more!

1) When did you first realize your passion for the beauty industry?

Growing up my mother worked at a salon in North Dallas. I would spend many days during the summer helping out around the salon while admiring all the beautiful transformations that happened daily. I’ve always found joy in bringing women confidence they forgot they had, it always came naturally to me. Choosing a career in the beauty industry was a no brainer when the time came.

2) What has been your path thus far in your career?

I got my cosmetology license just after my senior year in high school and spent 3 years going back and forth between doing hair and makeup. I discovered and fell in love with individual eyelash extensions in 2012. Shortly after … Read more!

INDIEGOGO COVER PHOTO-1

Envisioned and dreamed into life by Rebecca Taylor (fashion designer) and Sarah Hidey (international development consultant)—two good friends with a common vision of empowering women—TRIBE has a mission to provide opportunities to women around the world through the provision of job skills and ethical employment in the fashion industry. Specifically, TRIBE plans to partner with fair-trade nonprofits and sewing studios to employ women with barriers to employment both in the United States, and, eventually, in Cambodia.

Our brand can be summed up in three phrases:

Locally Designed: The co-founders of TRIBE are Denver residents. Designed by Rebecca Taylor, TRIBE’s collection has classic and modern styles that women of all ages will adore. TRIBE partners with local social enterprises, such as We Made This (employing refugees) and Sox Place Screen Printing (employing homeless youth) for the production of select items. Other partnerships are in development.

Recap of SPLASH

Fashion Market at the Breakers Recap
B.Fresh, Blackberry Maverick, Byasimacouture, Lawrence and Larimer, The Haus, Prompt Flare Designs, Stylish Sparrow, Marie-Margot and Hair by Shanelle; an all star team of designers that came together for the Poolside Fashion Market and made a splash!

Whether your fashion summer cocktail included ingredients such as linen, beads, tribal, traditional, dresses, laces and more, there was enough variety that satisfied everybody’s fashion buzz. A live DJ, sun, activities, a pool, and local clothes. What more could you ask for from a perfect Sunday for fun and shopping with friends and family.

Local Colorado designers took the spotlight and showed what the 303 can create. As Colorado becomes more diverse, we saw some impressive energy and designs from all of the designers that set up shop. Great work to all the designers and thank you 303 magazine for helping sponsor the event. We can’t wait to see what all of the designers have planned for the future and it’s looking bright!

Art show for our homeless community

Art for HopeA big part of our Denver community is the homeless community. Right by our Fashion Denver headquarters on 26th and Walnut is a community of homeless people who have brought me great inspiration. It’s hard to ignore what is happening on our streets and not want to do something about it. Many of the people on the streets are so incredibly talented and have passions and skills that we don’t even realize because we are so busy walking by.

I am thrilled to partner up with Westword and Dateline Gallery to put together an art show by the homeless community and for the homeless community!

WHAT:
Canvas: An art show to showcase and benefit the homeless community and inspire hope and creativity!

We will be distributing art packs to the homeless community. Each art pack will come with a 5×5 canvas or other material that will be the backdrop of their art piece and either paints, markers, colored pencils, pastels, etc.

Money from art sold and collected at the door would benefit Denver Homeless Out Loud. (I’m still waiting to hear back from them and hope that they will be on board for this!)

WHEN:
We have moved the date … Read more!
