How would you describe the style of your designs?
Rae Marie is edgy meets girlie, catering to my tomboy side and my feminine side. I create clothes for people who are born to stand out, not blend in with the crowd, using prints, colors and attitude in my pieces.
What materials do you usually use?
I use all types of fabrics that have personality, I love how a fabric talks to me and tells me what it wants to be.
What is the story behind the name of your line?
Rae is one of the many nicknames I have and Marie is not only another nickname but it is also my middle name. I like the way they come together as Rae Marie creating a soft but hard label for my clothing.
What is the first piece you ever made?
The first piece I ever made was in high school when I tried to create a Victorian inspired gown for my witch costume for Halloween. It was quite comical because I didn’t know what I was doing and I made half of my dress inside out… but it was all in good fun. It actually worked better for my costume and when people asked me about it, I acted like I did it on purpose.
If you could dress anyone in the world who would it be?
Oh that’s a tough one but I would really want to dress the Mata Hari. She was the ultimate femme fatale and had such an attitude about her that captivated men and women, she was pure genious!
where can we find your designs?
Right now you can find my designs at Fashion Denver, The Fabric Lab and my website www.fashionsbyraemarie.com. In the future, hopefully everywhere!
