Parker, CO 80138
in Parker Colorado at a place called The Studio@ MainStreet
When I was growing up, Parker was a little sleepy town just down the road from us. Over the past years, Parker has boomed and is no longer that little town but a thriving city!
This October, fashion hits the streets as the MainStreet Fashion Show takes over! Heather Dyamond, producer of the MainStreet Fashion Show tells us all about it!
What is the inspiration behind the fashion show?
We are calling our show “The MainStreet Fashion Show”. We were inspired by the stories of designers and models whose lives were financially and emotionally devastated during the lockdown in Denver.
We noticed that while things were chaotic in Denver, things were sort of normal in the surrounding towns. Denver being so big was not capable of dealing with a crisis like this as were most cities not equipped to handle it. So we thought one day why not try to move the fashion bubble from city to burbs. From the city streets to the main streets if you will. Every town has a Main Street whether it’s called that or not, but a place where people can gather and support one another.
We thought why not try to bring business back into local communities by having a fashion show and involving the local community. To bring some normalcy back to people in these turbulent times with a fashion show.
So we went out to the local boutiques and they loved the idea. We have 3 boutiques showing their clothes and we are engaging the local citizens to participate by asking them to be models at the event. People we meet on the street, in the salons, restaurants and bars. Mother’s, daughter’s, father’s, sons, grandkids etc will be our models along with more seasoned professional models. Our models will be a diverse mix from the LGBTQ+, the cis community and both professional and novice.
Our intention is to bring business into Parker on Main Street by making a special effort during the show to stop and recognize the individual boutiques, designers and HMUA and showcase them. Not your typical go out and there and wave around and poof they are gone and they get no business out of it.
What types of fashion will be featured? Is it Parker specific?
It will be very eclectic since we will be having boutiques showing with designers. Anything like holiday wear, casual, business, upscale, formal etc. The three boutiques we are using are very different so there’s no overlap on style, it will be very eclectic.
We will have six designer looks that will vary from high-end leather and fur work by by Andreas Tasgas, alternative pieces from Missy Caldwell, Colorado sporty by Chantel Goethe, ready to wear by Melissa An and her SMaL team, and two new designers to the scene one named Tamara Nesir from Lebanon who does high-end women’s formal wear and Nico Gustafson who designs ornate Victorian era inspired original dresses.
Tell us about the non-profit that this show is benefitting.
I am the executive director of a nonprofit 501C3 called Hana’s Hope. We provide free services and wigs to anyone suffering from alopecia due to various problems, but mainly women who’ve gone through chemotherapy, who can’t afford our services.
Our founder Hana has been doing this for over 33 years and has been a big supporter in the trans community with both her time and money. She also was touched by cancer 20 years ago and is a survivor, so she has a heart for what others are going through at this stage of their life.
She knows in order for someone to have the best chance to heal, their mind has to be clear, and hair loss during this most stressful time is sometimes more than most women can bear, so she wants to at the very least take that stress off their mind and have them work on healing their body.
How can the public help and contribute if they are not able to go to the fashion show?
Obviously, the public can help by showing up and supporting us during the day of the event which is October 16th 6:00 p.m. in Parker Colorado at the Studio on Main Street or become a sponsor.
What is your role?
I am the executive director, fundraiser, and producer of the show.
How would you describe our fashion sense in Colorado?
I don’t think there’s one particular way to describe the fashion scene in Denver, as you will see in our show which epitomizes the Colorado fashion psyche. There is a very eclectic range of talent which is reflective of our state and its fashion sense.
One of our designers will show full-length fur and leather designs and another will show casual winter and summer sportswear, such as snowboarding, skiing, and skateboarding. Others designers will show Victorian era dresses and another high-end gowns.
Is it different in Parker vs Denver?
To a certain extent, sure there is a difference between Parker and Denver. In Parker you might see more country-laid-back styles than in Denver but then again you’ll also see the eclectic fashion underbelly in Parker.
Parker has changed so much in the past 10 years. It has moved from a sleepy country town to a more diverse community. They have burlesque, comedy, theater and even drag shows and midget wrestling.
Parker has ‘done growed up” but in a good way and embraced the 21st century like the rest of the country is starting to do.
However, if you still like the slower-paced laid back life or the high-energy city life you can find them both there coexisting peacefully as it should be. People relating to people, one-on-one, no matter what your background or orientation is.
What can we expect at Main Street Fashion Show.
You can expect to see diversity in its purest form, regular everyday people, trans people, gay people, younger and older people, professional models, and amateur models all coexisting in one spot doing their best to show fashion can be fun, exciting, inclusive and unifying.
Oh and don’t forget about the dogs! There will be dogs modeling to get rescued, provided by Douglas County Dog Rescue.
