Denver Fashion Week Night 1: Sustainable Style Takes Center Stage

Denver Fashion Week kicked off in a brand new space this season—Furniture Row—and yes… surrounded by furniture (we loved it 😄). The expansive venue opened up into a playground of discovery, with pop-ups tucked into cozy corners, inviting guests to wander, explore, and uncover local gems along the way.

It felt less like a traditional fashion show and more like a curated experience—one where sustainability met community at every turn.

VIP guests were treated to a delicious spread  or small bites from BezelSuerte, and Le French, offering everything from sweet bites to savory delights. A cash bar kept the cocktails and NA beverages flowing, adding to the relaxed, celebratory vibe of opening night.

Le French with 2 locations in Denver & DTC
Suerte located on S. Pearl

And at the heart of it all, Denver Fashion Week continues to give back. This season’s beneficiary, Ardent Grove, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing low-cost and Medicaid mental health services, assessments, and community education—reminding us that fashion can be both expressive and impactful.

SIC: Upcycled Punk Rock Energy

And then… the runway cracked open.

SIC stormed in with a collection that felt like rebellion stitched back together with intention. This was upcycled fashion with teeth—raw, expressive, and unapologetically bold.

Think deconstructed clothing, unexpected textures, safety pins that weren’t just detail but declaration, and silhouettes that danced between chaos and control. Every piece looked like it had lived a past life… and decided to come back louder.

This wasn’t polished sustainability—it was defiant sustainability. A reminder that saving the planet doesn’t have to look soft. It can be gritty, loud, artistic, and wildly original.

SIC turned discarded materials into statements, proving that fashion’s future might just be found in what we’ve already left behind.

Dewey Designs: Crochet, Characters, and Reworked Magic

Dewey Designs brought a playful, hands-on spirit to the runway—where crochet meets upcycling and every look feels like its own fully-formed character.

This collection didn’t just walk… it introduced itself.

There was a mischievous, storybook rebel in the fuzzy two-piece—soft and almost doll-like at first glance, but styled with fishnets and just enough attitude to say, “don’t get it twisted.” A little fairytale, a little downtown after dark.

Then came the colorful wanderer—layered in patchwork crochet, pops of neon, and upcycled textures that felt collected from different lifetimes. Part festival spirit, part city explorer, carrying stories in every stitch.

And the punk poet in red—bold, graphic, and unapologetic. Crochet reworked into something fierce, with layered textures and a silhouette that felt both handmade and battle-ready. Sweetness unraveled and stitched back together with edge.

At the heart of it all is Dewey Designs’ love for crochet as a medium—not delicate or decorative, but expressive, loud, and full of personality. Paired with upcycled materials, each piece becomes a one-of-a-kind creation—no duplicates, no rules, just reinvention.

Dewey Designs doesn’t just make clothing—it builds a cast. A collection of wearable characters stitched together from memory, texture, and imagination.

Medicine Mender: Ancestral Threads & Living Stories

Medicine Mender brought a deeply rooted presence to the runway—earthy, intentional, and rich with meaning. This collection felt less like fashion and more like storytelling in motion, where every piece carried echoes of ancestry, identity, and lived experience.

At its core, the work is entirely upcycled and pieced together—garments rebuilt from existing materials, stitched into new forms with purpose. You could see the layering, the joining, the mending… like each piece had been through something and come out transformed.

There was a quiet power in the construction. Raw edges, visible seams, and thoughtfully placed panels created a sense of honesty—nothing hidden, everything honored. It felt like wearing the process, not just the final product.

And woven into that foundation were bold statements.

Hand-drawn symbols, stitched pathways, and graphic elements turned each look into a narrative. One piece felt like a map—abstract forms connected across the body, tracing stories through time. Another, in striking red, carried symbolic imagery that felt both ancestral and immediate. And a powerful moment on the runway invited reflection and dialogue—fashion used as a platform to ask questions and hold space.

Medicine Mender exists at the intersection of past and present. It honors what came before while reworking it—literally—into something that speaks today.

Nothing wasted. Nothing forgotten. Everything carried forward.

MOSS D: A Whimsical World of Color, Craft, and Joy

MOSS D brought a breath of fresh, joyful air to the runway—where slow fashion meets playful expression in the most heart-led way.

This collection felt like stepping into a living patchwork of happiness. Flowing skirts made of mixed ginghams danced down the runway, layered in soft, unexpected color combinations that felt both nostalgic and completely new. There was movement, ease, and a sense that these pieces were meant to be lived in—twirled in, laughed in, and loved over time.

At the heart of MOSS D is a deep love for textiles and the art of mixing them. Patterns collided in the most delightful way—checks, prints, and hand-dyed fabrics coming together like a quilt of creativity. Ice dye brought a soft, organic magic to select pieces, each one uniquely formed through a slow, almost meditative process.

MOSS D is known for incorporating deeply personal elements—including artwork from the designer’s daughter—adding an extra layer of storytelling to her one-of-a-kind creations.

Every piece is handmade by a single seamstress, created with care, intention, and a desire to bring joy to the wearer. No mass production, no duplicates—just one-of-a-kind designs passed from maker to wearer like little gifts.

MOSS D reminds us that fashion doesn’t have to rush. It can be slow. It can be meaningful. And most of all—it can be fun.

This was streetwear, elevated.

Strong silhouettes were paired with expert color blocking, creating looks that felt both modern and timeless. From vibrant monochromatic moments to neutral-toned pieces with intricate paneling, the collection showcased a deep understanding of how color and structure can work together to create impact.

Details didn’t whisper—they spoke.

Thoughtful cutouts, layered textures, and clean finishing revealed a level of care that set this collection apart. Each garment felt meticulously made, with an emphasis on fit, movement, and wearability while still holding onto that statement-making edge.

There was also a sense of individuality woven throughout—each piece standing confidently on its own, yet contributing to a cohesive vision of one-of-a-kind streetwear that pushes beyond the expected.

Based in Denver, Toblem Studios is carving out a space where design meets discipline, and where every detail matters.
