New Fashion Denver Intern

KellieMy name is Kellie Mortimer and I am going to be the new Fashion Denver Intern for the Spring of 2014.  I am a Southern California native who moved to Denver four years ago. I am currently a senior at the University of Denver, majoring in Marketing. I studied abroad in Paris, France last fall, where I studied fashion and French. I am hoping to pursue a career in the fashion industry when I graduate in June. I spend my free time skiing, traveling and of course, shopping.

I want to learn all about the fashion industry while interning for Fashion Denver. I am hoping to learn about the local fashion industry here in Denver and use my marketing skills in the fashion world.… Read more!

Artopia 2014

Unknown

It’s no surprise that Denver has an incredible art scene.  In fact, there is so much going on in the art scene that sometimes it’s hard to catch it all.  Westword made it easy for us to check out the best of the best that the arts have to offer in Denver.  Westword hosted their 19th annual Artopia on Saturday night, February 22, at five different locations along Broadway’s club strip: Vinyl, City Hall, Salty Dog, Bar Standard and the Living Room.  Denver art enthusiasts enjoyed live music, artist displays/demos, vendor booths, poerty and various performances throughout the night.  Artopia is an event that us Denverlites wait all year for and this year was no exception!  To put it lightly: if you missed out, well.. you missed out!

This year also marked the 8th Annual Mastermind Awards at Artopia, where our town was given the opportunity to honor five local artists/organizations for their contribution to Denver’s creative landscape. Westword recognizes that in order to help the arts grow in our town, the MasterMinds could use a little extra cash to expand to new heights.  The MasterMind Awards gives grants to five local artists and organizations, who each receive … Read more!

The Perfect Night for a Whiteout

The Fashion Denver Pre-Party at the Fashion Denver Headquarters

On Thursday night my fellow Denverlites and I did what we do best and braved the snow in the name of fashion. It was a complete whiteout outside, making a perfect platform for the whiteout that would ensue inside of the McNichols Building.

Our night started just as any good night should – with a toast of champagne and good company.  The second annual Westword Whiteout benefitted the American Transplant Foundation and was not only a chance for us to support the incredible Denver fashion scene, but it was also a time for us to celebrate our very own Brandi Shigley whose designs would be featured in the fashion show.  Cheers to that!

IMG_0524We arrived at the McNichols Building with snowflake accessories in our hair from the winter wonderland that was outside.  The doors opened to a bustling scene of well-dressed attendees, specialty cocktails, delicious bites, and bumping music. We socialized with designers, chatted with stylists, snapped a few pictures and scoped out the elite fashion as we walked through the posh event.IMG_0353

Once it was nearing 9 pm we made our way to our seats and eagerly waited for the start of the fashion show.  I have … Read more!

Juice Cleanse Results

I MADE IT!

photo 5

I have officially completed my Juicing Tree 3-day cleanse and am excited to say I didn’t cheat once!

This morning I woke up, ate oatmeal with a banana and enjoyed some tea.  Surprisingly – i’m still not craving anything unhealthy.

I am also not as hungry as I expected to be, probably because my stomach shrank over the last 3 days.

I couldn’t be happier with this experience! Not only did it test my willpower, but it also showed me great results (I lost 5 lbs and feel healthy, happy and rejuvenated!)

During my journey I came up with a few tips to share with our followers:

*** Save the Naked Nuggets and Kales Chips for late in the day – when your cravings are likely to be most intense.

*** Keep yourself VERY busy! Each day I packed myself a few juices and headed out for the day.

*** Day 2 was by far the hardest for me.  With this in mind, I suggest making Day 2 your busiest day.

*** I did not exercise while doing the cleanse, but if you do, make sure that you listen to your body.  If you think … Read more!

Day 2 – Juice Cleanse

Hello Hello! I am on Day 2 of my Juicing Tree juice cleanse! Turns out, it is not as hard as most people would assume.

I eat very well normally – so maybe that attributes to why I completed Day 1 with a certain amount of ease. I also kept myself busy all day so that I would rarely get the chance to think about food.

Day 1 Consumption:

*** 5 and 1/2 delicious juices. – I fell asleep early and didn’t drink half of my last juice. YESSSS! That means more juice for me today : )

*** 2 Naked Nuggets <– AKA tastes like a chocolate truffle so I felt like I was cheating

*** 1/2 of my 3-day supply of Kale Clusters… Whoops.  I couldn’t help myself.  These Kale Chips are AMAZING.  Please please please, if nothing else, GO TRY THESE KALE CLUSTERS (and then thank me later)

Today I am onto my second juice, have loads of energy, and surprisingly i’m not cravings carbs.  Maybe my body is trying to thank me for ridding myself of nasty toxins.

Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that I woke up feeling light as a feather.
