When were you first inspired to design? I started making jewelery in 2006 to help fund my deep love for travleing and seeing live music. It turned into sewing and designing clothes in 2010.

What will you be showing at Fashion Denver’s Holiday Market? A wide array of up cycled clothing and accessories. As far as clothing I will have dresses, tops, sweaters, and wide leg pants. Accessories include detached hoods, shawls, infinity scarves, regular scarves leg warmers, arm warmers, bandanas, headbands, and belts.

If you had to pick one piece from your collection that most represents your personality, which would it be?  I would have to say the detached hoods. They were my first original design with a new chic and urban concept. They are very versatile and can be worn on pretty much any occasion. They are really fun to wear and always get a lot of compliments. I really try to have a wide variety of colors and patterns so everyone can find on that fits their personality! I forgot to mention most of the hoods are reversible so its like getting … Read more!

Eeny, Meany, Miny, Mo, but No Meany. – Why We Love Rebecca Proctor

We stopped by Neiman Marcus in Cherry Creek last Saturday for a brunch with the Creative Director of MacKenzie-Childs, Rebecca Proctor. We received an overwhelming amount of inspiration from MacKenzie-Childs new Bittersweer Funiture Collection, which was expected from the luxury brand, but we did not expect just how moved we would be by the face behind the brand.  Rebecca’s energy and enthusiasm was magnetic, and her philosophy was parallel to that of Fashion Denver.  We cannot put into words what a pleasure it was to meet Rebecca Proctor.  Her message spoke powerfully to us that, no matter what, we must “always see the happy point of view” of any situation.

We had the opportunity to chat with this life-loving designer and learn a little more about her and the MacKenzie-Childs brand:

How did the MacKenzie-Childs brand originate?

MacKenzie-Childs started out as a small artisanal pottery in 1983. The story began in Aurora, New York and we are still headquartered there today. The original focus was on producing handmade, hand-painted majolica dinnerware and serving pieces, and the collection quickly expanded. Today we are designing and manufacturing a complete home furnishings collection including furniture, lighting, rugs, designs for your garden, personal … Read more!

When were you first inspired to design? I was 15 years old when I began working for a floral shop and greenhouse. The designers always inspired me to design. After being consistently constant in art class from 2nd grade on, I knew I wanted to do something creative, but didn’t figure it out until I was inspired at the age of 15 while working at Castle Pines Florist. The designers there encouraged me to design, saying I had a good eye for it. I didn’t believe them, but as time went on, others around me encouraged me to keep designing and one thing led to the next.

What will you be showing at Fashion Denver’s Holiday Market? I have ornaments that I design dried floral and other fun accents (such as feathers) into. Also, centerpieces that are dried floral or have succulents/airplants on them so they are sure to last through the holiday season. Terrariums will be available, as well. These are all incredible ways to add some fashion and design to your home. They are excellent gifts, as well.

When were you first inspired to design? I became inspired to design jewelry after High School while I was living in the mountains. I built my business during college and have been designing jewelry ever since!

What will you be showing at Fashion Denver’s Holiday Market? I will be showing a full collection of jewelry. I really enjoy mixing mediums to create pieces that are interesting to look at and incorporate unique combinations of style in my designs.  The collection will include: leather bracelets wire wrapped with semi-precious stones along with a variety of necklaces, earrings and rings

If you had to pick one piece from your collection that most represents your personality, which would it be?I really love these wire wrapped cuffs, I wear one almost everyday!
