POSTPONED UNTIL SPRING! Contact Katie for this excellent plan of helping designers sell old stock.
My name is Katie Gartner and I recently founded Frock Shop Sales LLC as a way to relieve local Denver designers and retailers of the financial burden of excess inventory and samples. In an effort to gain some monetary return from what would otherwise be taken as a total loss, I will put on a weekend sale in the downtown Denver area offering customers an assortment of inventory at a discounted price. Sales will be held semi-annually to begin with and will grow from there. I will take on the responsibility of securing a venue, gathering inventory, marketing the sale and executing each sale successfully. The business model I have chosen to follow is that of the traditional sample sale. Sample sales are a proven way to turn excess inventory into profit. The terms of the sale will be 60/40 (Designers 60/Frock Shop 40).
Friday night at the Sherman Event Center in Denver, CO was the highly anticipated Forever Darling IV event. Fallene Wells, hairstylists, Project Runway Season 9 contestant, and fashion designer of her own line, is the creator of this event and works year around to produce it. This event recognizes and promotes local fashion designers and businesses, and this year featured 11 designers. The evening included a VIP reception, silent auction, live jazz and dancers, and of course the fashion show. It was great to see all the people that came and supported this event, including the sponsors: Vitamin Water, Maximum Talent, and 5280.
As an intern at Fashion Denver I was given the opportunity to be involved in the event. Technically, my title was VIP Host, however as I’ve learned from reading many blogs, things change. In the midst of there not being enough volunteers and things getting crazy, I started downstairs at Will Call with one other volunteer. We knew it was going to get crazy, but we weren’t anticipating the computer to lose battery and the credit card app to not work. However, with the help of Brandi Shigley, Fallene, and her
Last night I went to an art show curated by my friend Melissa and I was so excited to run into an old acquaintance and artist Max Kauffman. Something about his artwork is so delicate and meaningful. I love the recurring theme of the cassette tape in most of his pieces and love the color schemes that he uses. We’re hoping to have an artshow featuring Max’s work in November! I would also love to see his designs on tees and tote bags! We’re new fans here at Fashion Denver!

One of my fabulous business mentors, Kathy Bacon, founder of Dress For Success Denver, has graciously donated 2 VIP tickets to Forever Darling IV. Fashion Denver had a contest on Facebook where one would write a haiku and take a picture in a roaring 20’s outfit.
Here is our lucky winner! Singer / songwriter Coles Whalen!
One of our biggest passions is seeing designers start out with an idea, execute their idea, and make things happen! Shelby Stone, designer of So Simply Delicious share her experience with Fashion Denver.
“I’ve been dabbling in jewelry designing and spa products for years but I’ve never considered it anything more than a hobby. Now, thanks to Fashion Denver, I can actually dream big! Thank you Brandi Shigley, for helping me turn So Simply Delicious into a true money-making venture!”
