When I was growing up, Parker was a little sleepy town just down the road from us. Over the past years, Parker has boomed and is no longer that little town but a thriving city!

This October, fashion hits the streets as the MainStreet Fashion Show takes over! Heather Dyamond, producer of the MainStreet Fashion Show tells us all about it!

What is the inspiration behind the fashion show?

We are calling our show “The MainStreet Fashion Show”. We were inspired by the stories of designers and models whose lives were financially and emotionally devastated during the lockdown in Denver. 

We noticed that while things were chaotic in Denver,  things were sort of normal in the surrounding towns. Denver being so big was not capable of dealing with a crisis like this as were most cities not equipped to handle it. So we thought one day why not try to move the fashion bubble from city to burbs. The Urban Angels, making a difference through creativity

The Urban Angels

When we had our boutique on Bannock Street, I had the pleasure of meeting and becoming dear life-changing friends with Peggy and Mary, two women with some of the biggest hearts that I’ve ever met. They walked into the shop and it was like they brought the sunshine with them! As I began to know them over the years, I saw how much they love serving the community, not just locally, but internationally. They began to rub off on me and inspire me to serve my community.

How did you ladies become the “Urban Angels”?

We were dubbed The Urban Angels by a friend who lived in Downtown Denver and observed our work with the homeless and shared our love for the city of Denver and those who call it home.

What is the mission of the Urban angels:

Our mission is to bring encouragement and hope to those in need, especially children around the world.  We have been lucky enough to give our dresses and care packages to children in Denver, Haiti, Honduras, Peru, Guatemala, and the Philippines.

Fierce in the City 4

Fashion and Live Music Return to the Runway in
Denver at Fierce in the City 4

Denver, CO – The fourth Fierce in the City event, featuring live music performances interactively with fashion runway shows, creating a uniquely fierce experience, will be held on Sunday, December 15 at 5:30 p.m. at Halcyon Hotel, Cherry Creek, 245 Columbine Street, Denver, and will benefit GIRLS, INC. of Metro Denver.  It is being produced by Denver-based Fashion Designer, Salwa Owens. Fierce in the City 4 is being sponsored by Maaliki Motors.

The show is created with Owens’ overall mission of empowering women and does so by not only giving back to Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, but also by bringing real women from the community who are movers and shakers onto the runway in a segment called “The Real Women.” Owens will showcase new collections of her own, as well as feature other established designers.

Guest designers invited to have their own runway shows include bridal designer D’Lola Couture, jewelry designer Andrea Li, and leather and fur designer Andreas Tsagas.  The show will also include Icon custom suits, handmade children’s clothing and accessories by Peach & Penny, headwear … Read more!

Fierce In The City: Where Music & Fashion meet on the runway!

Denver! Get ready for one exciting show as the amazingly talented Salwa Owens brings fashion and music to the runway for the 3rd Fierce in the City! We’ve attended the past two years and are absolutely have a blast at her shows. We don’t know how this woman does it! She truly is a super woman! She’s been working her bootie off and we can’t wait to see what she’ll be presenting on the runway!!

Freddie Mercury AIDS Quilt Panel part of Red Ball Fashion benefit

Red Ball launches World AIDS Day awareness with the display of AIDS Quilts created for Freddie Mercury, from the Band Queen, and renowned artist Keith Haring. The panels are part of the National AIDS Memorial Quilt and will be on display the evening of Red Ball, Sunday November 18 at the EXDO event center.

In the 1980’s AIDS claimed the lives of designers, including Chester Weinberg, Perry Ellis, Willie Smith and many more creative men and women in the fashion industry. Beyond the designers, showroom assistants, stylists, photographers, creative directors, window dressers, lost their lives to AIDS. In an article by Kam Dhillon on how AIDS impacted the fashion industry he said “an entire generation of creativity (was) completely decimated. In 1980s New York, fashion was the city’s second-biggest industry and these people were its pulse. AIDS touched the lives of nearly everyone in the fashion industry.”
