Hana Designs: Getting people through chemo looking and feeling beautiful!

A month or so ago, I went wig shopping with my Mom as she was beginning chemo treatments. I was feeling emotional as we walked into Hana Designs, a wig studio that was recommended to my Mom through her cancer support group.  Almost instantly, we were greeted by Hana and any anxiety seemed to melt away.

After a few minutes of chatting to Hana, we realized we had met at Red Ball, an absolutely amazing fashion show to benefit the Colorado Aids Project. We instantly fell in love with this angel!

Meet Hana and learn more about what she does at her beautiful studio!

Otero Menswear: Short Men Standing Tall on Fitted, Sustainable Fashion

Interview with Co-Founder Steve Villanueva of Otero Menswear

So, what is so special about Otero Menswear?

Our company is founded on the belief that a well-dressed man is more confident and respected than a man in the same position who always looks out of place in his own clothes. And we also believe that dressing really well should be effortless. Because men with confidence, intelligence, and drive have better things to do than try on every shirt that should be in your size. In fact, we believe this so passionately that we completely reinvented the concept of clothing sizes.

Most men’s apparel brands are designed for an imaginary “average” body type—one that is roughly 5’10” or 5’11”, of middling weight, with a chest measurement that determines the width of the entire garment. All other sizes (XS-XXL) are created off of this template by making the shirt proportionally bigger or smaller. Basically, every man alive is expected to fit into only seven sizes, based on a body scale that doesn’t really exist.

In reality, men have two distinctive body types, that actually serve different functions, and these are defined by differences in the shoulder-waist ratio.

Designer Interview: Julia Rhoden Design

The first time we met Julia Rhoden, of Julia Rhoden Design, was when we held an eco-fashion competition where designers were partnered up with an ecological fashion disaster! I need to find those photos!! Julia’s design was so innovative and clever and ever since then, she has been on the forefront of our minds as a designer here in Denver.

Let’s see what inspires this woman!

What inspired your love for fashion and fashion design?

Honestly for most of my life I wanted to be a zoologist and chase wolves around in Russia UNTIL I saw the movie the ‘Devil Wears Prada’ in high school and I instantaneously became inspired by the ‘Miranda Priesly’ character and just knew in my heart- “This is what I need to do.” Senior year of high school I changed my direction and directed everything towards becoming a fashion designer.

The first thing I ever made was my best friends bright yellow prom dress!

How long have you been designing?

I have been designing since high school but have been seriously designing over the last seven years. Really honing in on my construction, my technical skills and aesthetic.

Did you go to school for design Read more!

My friends at Colorado Glasses are excited to help raise the standard on sunglasses!

What does that mean? Their Bio-Series frames will degrade on their own over time, but, even better, they can be composted (turned into soil). These new shades are paired with their “Unlimited Renewals” program allowing to you send back your old shades in exchange for half off a new pair. They will then take your old glasses and either recycle or compost the parts.
