I first met photographer Kristin Christian, photographer behind Colorado Life Style Photography, last spring when our line of dress shirts, Bradley Allen, was featured on the runway for the Children’s Miracle fashion show.
I started following her on social media and absolutely LOVED the energy of her photos, leading to working with her on our recent Valentine’s photoshoot. She was able to take a really sexy situation making it classy, lovable, and full of emotion. We had such a blast!!
We wanted to know what makes this photographer tick! Let’s get to know this amazing Colorado Photographer, shall we?
What is your favorite subject to photograph?
My kids, Isabella and Wyatt, come first. They are my inspiration and the reason I fell in love with photography. I love photographing families and creating an experience that allows them to relax and be natural in front of the camera.
How did you develop an interest in photography?
I dreamed up Colorado Lifestyle Photography the year my daughter was born with the intention of documenting our family and our love for Colorado. My husband and I are originally from Michigan, and we moved here 12 years ago to create a new lifestyle. Every day I wake up and see the mountains, and I marvel at their beauty. After my son was born, my love of photography spread to friends and grew into the business I have today. Everyone I meet has their own version of the Colorado lifestyle they are living, and I am here to tell their stories.
What makes a good picture stand out from the average?
Good pictures aren’t always technically correct. They aren’t perfect; they are real. The very best pictures capture an emotion and tell a story. They create connection with the viewers and draw them in.
What was your favorite shoot you’ve done so far and why?
Last summer I had the opportunity to travel to the California coast to capture one of my closest friends and her family on vacation. It was a total dream come true! We explored cliffs overlooking the ocean and splashed in the waves at sunset. It was exciting to be in a new location, and it was an amazing experience. We created memories that will last a lifetime.
How would you describe your photography style?
Vibrant, authentic, connected. I love using rich bold colors that are true to life. My favorite moments happen when no one is looking at the camera. As a lifestyle photographer, I am committed to capturing genuine moments and delivering inspiring images that tell a story. I believe a session should be about more than just taking an artistic picture; it should also be a natural, fun, and stress-free experience. Real Moments Captured.
What is the biggest challenge in your industry and why?
The biggest challenge in the family photography industry is competition. Competition from other photographers and competition from digital technology. I work hard to make sure my ideal clients can find me. The ones who value my photography style and want a great experience. I am thankful I have been able to build such a strong community over the past 3 years.
I look for magic in the everyday moments. I love breathtaking scenery, and I love capturing the chaos of daily life. Watching the sunset on a mountaintop can be just as powerful as documenting my daughter’s toothless grin. Childhood is fleeting, and I use my photographs to slow it down.
