We have such a diverse fashion community in Denver and one of the ways that we want to showcase a variety of our community is with our Summer Sizzler questions! We ask 6 different questions that we are asking different folks in the fashion industry to answer, getting an insight into what inspires them and what makes them tick!

In this Summer Sizzler, we get a few moments with Charlie Price, hairstylist, fashion designer, fashion event producer and one of Denver’s originals. If you haven’t seen one of Charlie’s fashion shows, you may have seen him on Bravo’s Shear Genius!

I recently found out that Charlie and I went to the same highschool in Aurora, Colorado.. Smoky Hill!

We’ll kick off the series with Quána Madison, wearer of many hats in the fashion industry. We met Quána working her coordination magic backstage at one of Denver’s fashion shows and pretty much fell in love with her from the start. We had her at last summer’s fashion camp in which she inspired our kiddos to have the confidence to walk the runway, not just the runway but walk into life with power!

Reduce, Reuse, Recyle…Redefine

We’ve all found ourselves staring disappointedly at our closet of (too many) clothes, exasperated by the utter lack of things to wear. Recycled couture may be the perfect solution to switch things up and refresh your style. How about a dress made of movie tickets? Or a jacket made from packing materials? The young designers featured at Trash the Runway blew me away with their innovative manipulation of such challenging fabric to create chic apparel.

Before attending the event, I was unaware the designers were only in middle school and high school. I was shocked by the bold styles and personalities of the young artists. Their excitement was contagious as they proudly strutted their stuff for the adoring crowd. When asked about their work, almost every designer commented on how long it took them or how they had to repeatedly start over because of the frustratingly unique textiles.

The contestants were critiqued based on categories such as functionality and innovation, winning titles that included crowd favorite and best overall. There was a wide variety of ensembles decorated with everything from winged accessories to Victorian-style neck pieces. However, I was most impressed by the grand prize winner’s creation.
