We are thrilled  to present “Circle of Love” our 3rd annual dress drive with the Urban Angels to be held at Studio Salon in downtown Denver. The purpose of this dress drive is to not only provide hope, love and joy to little girls around the world in impoverished circumstances, but to provide fun and colorful dresses for girls to play and grow in. Financial gifts donated will be shared between Love a Child and The Hope House of Colorado and will provide food for families in need providing hope for a better future.

For most of these little girls, this is the only new dress that they’ve ever had.

“Hope and love are infused into these dresses and we will never know the full impact of the gift that’s been given,” says Mary Martinez of the Urban Angels.

Wow!! It’s crazy how life comes full circle. Since the inception of Fashion Denver in 2004, I have been doing our most of our fashion markets in our “RINO” district, which back then, didn’t have a name. It was more or less a deserted strip with an occasional warehouse  or venue scattered in between.  Back then, I had my fashion markets at Andenken Gallery, The Walnut Foundry, The Block Building, and… Flying Dog Brewery!

In 2006, I partnered with Flying Dog Brewery to do our fashion market in the brewery. Our fashion show runway was lined by a wall of kegs and we even had our fashion show staging area in the freezer (yes… it was cold!) That was when I first met Chris Rippe, who was working with Flying Dog.

Flash forward to this week when I met up with my amazingly talented friend Phelyx Hopkins, mentalist and magician, to see the space that he’s hosting a variety of fun shows and to reunite with Chris and experiencing his new space! Chris has a beautiful warehouse space inside of C … Read more!

Shock Wave: Japanese Fashion Design Recap

What the brand Comme des Garcons means to you, can mean something completely different to me; that is the beauty of the world that Rei Kawakubo has created. Japanese fashion is like poetry. No matter how old a piece of poetry is, the intimacy and the feelings evoked from the imagery is subjective to the reader, and lasts forever. This holds true to the way that different consumers and admirers interpret collections presented by designers such as Comme des Garcons, Yohji Yamamoto and Issey Miyake. Sometimes, a collection will fly over someone’s head. They assume that the collection is irrelevant, because they have yet to understand or experience the meaning behind the collection. For others, the collections presented may click with their psyche in a way that will changes their lives forever.

The world put proportions and aesthetic in a box. When designers such as Rei and Yohji appeared, they changed the way people looked at proportions. In the 80’s, they introduced new silhouettes that are still profound today. The well curated, vintage outfits presented years ago, at Shock Wave are historical looks that innovated the fashion world and continue to challenge the modern world.

To me, the looks presented Read more!
