Fashion is back in our Mile High City and we can’t wait to see the fashions unfold as Denver’s top designers and stylist bring their brilliancy to the runway!
Denver-based organization Fashion West celebrates fashion from the perspective and spirit of the American West. We feature artisans who craft pieces individually by hand- to designers that made their start in the west then scaled their businesses to larger international markets -to designers from anywhere in the world who capture our imagination.
Designers use their fashion pieces to create a message, and hopefully, one that leaves an impact on people. At just the age of fifteen, designer Brenna Livingston understands the importance of using her work to carry on the message of sustainability and being environmentally friendly. Upcycling, a now popular trend, is used by Livingston in her designs to portray the importance of wearing sustainable clothing while also looking fashionable. She wants to use her designs to inspire people to take responsibility for the role they play in recycling for the benefit of our Earth.
At the Modello Nuovo fashion show, Livingston’s jewelry pieces were highlighted for her creativity in taking something old and turning it into something new and fashionable. I had the pleasure of interviewing Livingston to get some insight of how she brings her pieces to life.

Curves of Life Brunch and Fashion Show Review
Written by Jaime Sachs
Over the past few years couture connoisseurs have watched as the fashion world has opened up to not only welcome, but celebrate, people in all of their differences. I remember being amazed as Winnie Harlow took on the notoriously non-diverse Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, skin aglow despite her Vitiligo, and Tess Holliday gracing a Cosmopolitan cover, bravely facing backlash to assert that all sizes can be beautiful. These women made history in fighting absurd beauty standards, blazing a path that, yes, true beauty can be found in all of our unique attributes.
On Sunday June 30, fashion was similarly used to empower young women afflicted with Scoliosis, or a curvature of the spine. That vital objective is why I feel blessed to have attended and helped out with the Curves of Life Fashion Show for the Curvy Girls program. For those of you who don’t know this program, Curvy Girls is an international Scoliosis support group that aims to raise awareness of Scoliosis while also providing support to sufferers in showing that they are not alone. As Curvy Girls is aimed at teenagers with Scoliosis, the Curves
Denver Fashion Week. The ultimate occasion to celebrate an exciting industry. I was more than eager to attend and discover how Denver defines fashion by observing not only the designers’ creations but the style of attendees as well. Always curious about the type of people that go to esteemed fashion shows, I was looking forward to seeing the types of clothes that guests felt were Fashion Week worthy.
I was pleased to find that throughout the week, the designers expressed a wide variety of styles. There was everything from dainty dresses, to loud pops of color, to slouchy street wear. I was also surprised to find that a substantial portion of the designers conveyed dark themes through their color, music, and message choices. The most memorable example of these contrasting styles was on the last night. After a stream of delicate dresses, the mood suddenly changed when a new collection kicked off with a sleek pant suit paired with equally bad ass sunglasses and ponytail, set to the type of music that calls to mind a James Bond film.
Before DFW, I never thought to consider how designers bring their looks to life beyond hair, makeup, and accessories. As the … Read more!
