Friday, November 8th marked the 40th Anniversary for the Boulder Valley Women’s Health Center. It also marked the day that I did something I never could have guessed I would do: attend and help produce a Condom Couture Fashion Show.
Condom Couture was held at the Boulder Theater and was completely unique from any other fashion show that I have attended in that it featured designs entirely made out of condoms. Yes, I said it: condoms. All fashions were the unique creations of local artists, activists, fashion designers and fashionistas, designed to help promote safe sex and sex positivity.
I worked closely with Brandi Shigley, Justice Kwesi Kwarteng, and Carlos Estrada from the Global DJ Academy to finalize the music, prep the models and ultimately help produce one of the sexiest and most distinctive fashion shows I have ever been to.
The event began with a 40th Anniversary Video Presentation, followed by a live auction with Don Martin. The live auction items included a Cabo Getaway, a Breckenridge or Beaver Creek Condo Stay, a couple’s night out in Downtown Boulder, a private helicopter ride, a hot balloon ride and many more seriously awesome items! What an amazing time we had working with the Boulder Women’s Health organization. I (Brandi Shigley) emceed the fashion show while Stephanie (Fashion Denver assistant) worked on the production of the fashion show with Justice from JTA Group. All in all, the fashions were unbelievable! As photos are posted, we will definitely link to them! Imagine outfits and condoms made with 100’s if not thousands of condoms! They were so creative!!!! And, we raised $29,000 for the Boulder Women’s Health!!!

We are looking for a team of volunteers to be part of our Holiday Fashion Market taking place Sunday December 15th at the Grant-Humphreys mansion. This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of our local fashion scene and help to make sure that this holiday market supporting local designers and businesses goes smoothly! You will meet over 20 Colorado designers and be part of the fashion fun!!
In the past, we’ve had volunteers not show up, so please inquire only if you are serious 🙂
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS:
Set up crew: 8am-10am. Assist designers with unloading vehicles and helping them get to their designated area.
Greeting crew: Greet guests and let the know what to expect at the fashion market. Available shifts are 10-noon, noon-2, 2-4, 4-6.
Gift wrapping: We’re going to offer gift wrapping and all donations will go to the Grant-Humphreys / Byers-Evans education fund. This will be going on all day! Let me know what time will work for you! We’ll provide the paper and bows!
Breakdown crew: 5:45pm-7:00pm. Assisting designers with load out to vehicles and clean up. WE WOULD LOVE YOUR HELP! Often times, it’s just us breaking down the entire
Besides producing fashion events, one of my biggest passions is helping designers and other small businesses grow their businesses. I am having the pleasure of working with designer Melody Merrit of Infxous Scrubs! We’ve been consulting with Melody for the past couple of years and are watching her take her dream and turn it into reality.
Melody designs stylish scrubs for the medical and spa industries and it has been a dream of hers to get her designs into production and into a trade show. Well, that dream is here! We are spending the week in San Diego assisting Melody at the Uniform Retailer Trade show! I’ve been working to design her website www.infxousscrubs.com , re-branding her logo with an updated look, and designing all of her marketing materials (flyers, business cards, and banners). Now, I’m here to help get her out their to the retailers and distributors!
We’re having a great time here. Today we spent 6 hours setting up the booth. Assembling all of the parts and pieces of our racks and tables and steaming all of the clothes has been tiring, but we’re getting our second wind for the fashion show happening tonight!
